Talk:Master data management

Latest comment: 2 years ago by DEddy in topic Multiple versions of the Truth

Introduction edit

  • Cleaned up first two paragraphs to correct the definition of MDM:
    • Added references to the definitions
    • Corrected the impression that MDM only covers reference data. Mastering is about providing a master copy of data and that may include transactional (e.g. stock from both stores and warehouse systems) or analytical data (from multiple data marts) too.
    • Moved the reference to "in computing" to the tools section in paragraph 3. As true MDM requires changes to business processes, (and is unlikely to suceed without the proper data goverenance roles in place, only the tooling definition relates to "computing". Multiple versions of the Truth edit

Whoever wrote this paragraph is to be seriously commended.

The reality that alleged "data governance professionals" advocate for "a single version of the truth" ("the" implying singular, as opposd to "a", plural) is ludicrous.
