ACCURACY: A user has been editing the page to read that Marlboro College will definitely close in 2020. Currently, as confirmed on the college's website, there is only a non-binding term sheet that lays out how a "merger" negotiation between Emerson and Marlboro might proceed. It's more accurate, therefore, to describe what's going on as a plan to close the school rather than a confirmed closure. (ASegar (talk) 15:48, 5 December 2019 (UTC))

Two different dates are mentioned for the college's founding date. In the first paragraph, 1948 is mentioned, while in the second, 1946.

The official site, like the article now, has 1946 as the date. I'll remove the disputed accuracy tags. By the way, does anyone know where the college's name comes from? Was Marlboro a heavy sponsor? Did the GIs name it such for a love of the cigarettes? I, for one, would be interested to know. --BDD 00:58, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The name of the college comes from the town of Marlboro, Vermont where the college is located.--Sweetpond 18:39, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I hate to mention this, because the website doesn't bring it up, but: not all freshman take Designated Writing courses. Some take writing seminars instead, which give much more in-depth study of how to write well, while designated writing courses expect you to be good at it already and just assign a lot of papers...personal knowledge of the system here at Marlboro. David Mamet not listed on website as current faculty (not to mention, he's just not here--easy to tell with only 30 or so professors on campus); maybe subject heading should be "Famous Former Professors"? User:Snyrt

It might also be a good idea to remove the link to googlemaps satelite image; since the state of VT doesn't pay for satelite maps, all you get at that lmagnification is a notification that they don't have a map...for that matter, all the satelite maps say the same thing. 206.192.68.116Snyrt

You know, for the longest time, I'd noticed that as well, though, as of today, this appears to have been rectified. I'm supposing that the state of Vermont now does pay for this imagery?

Just curious, if David Rhodes was born in 1956 and Peter Lefcourt was a professor from 68-70, how is it possible that he taught him at Marlboro? Was Rhodes some sort ridiculous prodigy that went to college at the age of 13?

Notable Alumni

Removed people of dubious distinction. Appearing on Judge Judy and/or being published in some medium or another does not entitle one to "notoriety."
According to Wikipedia:
"A person should be included as a "notable alumna or alumnus" if the person would qualify for an article in his or her own right under Wikipedia: Notability (people)/WP:BIO. By implication, this means that each person listed in a "notable alumni" or "notable alumnae" section should have a wikilink, either red or blue." Lecollye (talk)

Why I reverted the redirect

This move, while undoubtedly well-intentioned, was grossly inappropriate. The College existed for some time. The fact that eventually it failed, as so many institutions have, does not mean that the name of the College changed or should be changed. --Orange Mike | Talk 20:21, 20 September 2021 (UTC)

Orangemike, thank you for your revert of a definitely ill conceived move. I noticed that in the moves, all the original discussion on the Marlboro College talk page has now been deleted? Can that be restored? Thriley (talk) 20:24, 20 September 2021 (UTC)

My apologies. The intention was to match the URL, it was well-meant. I did not delete the talk page, it was archived since the information was older- so I'm not certain why it still isn't there.
