Anglicisation and further work needed edit

The original text appears to have been written by a Spanish-speaking author. I have tried to Anglicise the text, in some cases having to interpret the text while trying not to lose the original meaning. Some lack of clarity remains - for example the reference to a "documented letter" and Mesones's study of mathematical planes (perhaps topography or relief mapping). The reference to the "First commercial expedition" is minimal, similarly the collapse of the Huancabamba River diversion scheme.
