Last name edit

There is an unconfirmed rumor that her last name is Genryuusai. Anyone know anything about this? Danny Lilithborne 07:33, 25 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

I heard of the rumor. The reason is that her dad is named Genryusai and it might be a surname. Some japanese website list her with that surname. --Doomzaber 07:46, 20 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

It's official actually. Jonny2x4 06:51, 19 October 2005 (UTC) http://fightingstreet.com/pics/temp/various/ff2story.jpgReply

Thank you! A side note, do you have the source book about Zangief? I do believe what is said in the canon faq, but would be great if you had an image of the page to debunk those who don't believe in it; it will put the tiresome debate to rest--64.168.102.61 00:32, 20 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Sorry! I should've been clear before, but the image is really not mine. It's from a thread in the Shoryuken.com forums (which I occasionally lurk, since I'm somewhat of a Capcom fan). You should try asking there, since one of the posters claims to have some of the earliest SFII sourcebooks by Gamest.Jonny2x4 04:20, 20 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thank you edit

Thank you so much for altering the page to have fact, rather than people's assumptions of the character. You can't imagine how greatful I am since before you took charge, I was constantly changing the page to maintain it's accurarcy such as adding her appearance in sfa3 is more of a comeo appearance than canon(which it isn't) and calling her outfit a gi rather than a ninja top and skirt. It was stressful since I would have to change it daily. You are my hero since Maki is my favorite character and I hate to see wrong info on this character. --Doomzaber 00:29, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

You're welcomed. :) Yeah, it bothered me alot too how her appearance in the GBA SFA3 was emphasized over her CvS2 appearance, when it should be the other way around (seeing how CvS2 began all the extra characters in SFA3 Upper in the first place). The GBA game wasn't even a real a Capcom game at all, it was outsourced to Crawfish Entertainment IIRC. Jonny2x4 04:20, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

I am glad you put a stop to it since it is hard to imagine Capcom making the GBA ver canon, considering that Yun would be around 10 years old(I recall SF3 taking place 5-6 years after sf2 and since sfA is a year before Sf2, he should be around that age.) It is like making Dante's appearance in Viewiful Joe canon or X-men vs Street fighter Cammy's appearance Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold canon.

I used to edit the page alot, emphasizing her role in CVS2 more than the gba port(you can check my edits,as well as the edits I did under my IP number.) I even mentioned about the differences of her uniform between the Final Fight 2 and made a comment on the dicussion of why they are treating her appearance in SF3 more important than in CVS2(like you said, it is the game that brought her back from obscurity. Otherwise, she wouldn't have been in the gba port if not CVS2.) Both were deleted; guess that somebody didn't want ppl to know the truth of her appearances in the later games-Doomzaber 07:54, 20 October 2005 (UTC).

Uh...huh? JuJube 02:26, 2 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

As far as I know, the extra characters for GBA's SFA3 Upper don't have their personal endings. But they have endings in PSP's SFA3 MAX. I don't know what do you think about that. Actually I am sick and tired of people taking Canon too seriously. Yun's appearance in SFA3 is not very natural, yes, but only when you take SFA series as a canonical part of the whole Street Fighter series. Generally, SFA series is not contradictory to other parts of SF canon. But there are still some details breaking the continuity. As in SFA3, Capcom inserted too many SF2 and SSF2 characters into the game. This makes their stories in SF2 and SSF2 not quite normal. The stories suddenly become simple and lots of characters involved before just disappear. People ignore these unnatural details because they understand how did it happen. They see the stories are not apparently contradictory and let it go. But why can't SFA series have its own continuity? Like the KOF series which is considered as the major canon of its characters now but it has some inconsistency with the previous Fatal Fury and AOF series. There is one thing what you are right about. These extra characters for SFA3's port are from a noncanonical game, CVS2. Like those extra characters in KOFXI's port are from NBC. It's just some business trick used by game company. But it dosen't mean the company pick the characters without thinking. They didn't put Vampire or Samurai into the console games. The characters they picked up are still made them possible to meet with other arcade characters in SFA3 or KOFXI. I thought people got used to the contradictory continuity since those superhero comics had messed themselves up again and again. Perhaps I was wrong. Maybe it's because people so persist in canon that the comics companies had to rewrite their books over and over again and made the existent stories uncanonical every time when they did it. I don't mean we should forbid canon at all. But sometimes people just stick on a single one. In Japan, people view the problem with the explanation of parallel universe, hence the contradiction of characters' age in KOF (caused by the inconsistent relation between FF and AOF) is no longer a problem. Why can not Yun's in SFA3? --Mato Rei 15:59, 1 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Maki's contituity edit

Hello, Doomzaber and Jonny2x4 (nice Ed, Edd n Eddy refence there btw), I am the one who was the first to make Maki's bio here in Wikipedia (along with all the Final Fight bios sans Guy). I do not know why the others emphasize the SFA3 story over her role CVS2, but my reasoning is there is a story in the GBA port. I am well aware that Maki was brought back in CVS2 but the game is a mere grabbag of characters from Capcom and SNK which is not only non-canon, but dosen't have a story. At least SFA3U had a story for her, and while it may be non-canon, it seems acurate from what I found from Tiamat's plot guide. Also as far as I could tell, Capcom hasn't made a judgement call on this game's continuity just yet (though yeah, I pretty sure Yun and Yang are not canon), but they could make her storyline and Eagle's part of it like Cammy's Shadoloo doll outfit in XVSF and possibly all of Final Fight Revenge.

I don't trust Tiamat's guide. It's alright for what it is, but it's not very well-organized (it doesn't specify which info comes from which source) and relies too much on fanon. And SFA3U isn't even out yet, so we don't she will be integrated into the storyline. Also, Capcom vs. SNK 2 might had been nothing but a crossover game, but at least it was a new game. SFA3 for GBA is just a port featuring characters that shouldn't belong. Jonny2x4 05:28, 13 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
My opinion of why others believe her appearance in sfa3 is more important than CVS II is because she is in a non vs game. In other words, it is possible that people assume that every new character they have in the game is canon. However, this is not always true. A good example would be the namco games, where they would have new characters when portin the game over. Look at Soul Calibur II for the home systems. Each system has their own exclusive characters and their own story. However, their appearance in the game isn't canon.
Even though Maki is a final fight character, we can't say her appearance is canon since the game was ported by Crawlfish, they lack an ending, and Yun is in the game. I mean it is like saying Zero Gouki in the game, Cyberbots, is canon. AS for Street Fighter Alpha 3 max(psp ver of the game,) the crossover characters does not seem canon to me since Ingrid seems more like a Dark Stalker character than Street Fighter. But who knows, Capcom may retrofit the timeline to have Yun in the game, which would be silly unless they made a new younger sprite of Yun as a preteen(doubtful.)
Speaking of tiamat, was the Zangief triva been confirmed by another fan who can reference it in a japanese source book?--Doomzaber 00:37, 18 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
SFA3 MAX isn't even out yet anyway, so we don't how much backstory (if any) will be added to the game. On a related noted, I'm merging all of the Final Fight characters articles, keeping only Cody, Guy, Haggar, Sodom, Rolento and probably Maki. It seems a bit superfluous to have articles on characters that don't even any backstory and rely too much on fanon. Jonny2x4 05:20, 18 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

I think Maki should have her page intact because even though she may not have a backstory, she is a character in capcom vs SNK II. I mean, I don't mind reducing the page to omit fan speculation, but imo, if a character appeared in two games w/o being a direct copy from the previous game, said character should be mention; the character have some significants in which it is in more than one game.

Same goes for Posion in a way since she has a backstory of being Hugo's manager and the controversal origin. Lastly, She was in FFR, even though it may not be canon, her appearance should be noted since it is a game with new sprites.

You can read info at http://toynewsi.com/article.php?itemid=8358

From the article, the game appears to be like Rival schools 2(not to be confused with Project Justice) whereas it is more of a non canon translation and not a canon update; For those who never played RS 2 for the ps, they have two new characters with backstory, a new sim mode and make your fighter. However, the two new characters are cannically introduce in teh game till Project Justice.

As for sfa3m, remember vampire chronicle? I believe sfa3m will be the same thing where it is made for fans and has nothin to alter the story(like kof 99)--Doomzaber 09:25, 18 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

The Final Fight 2 boss articles were ridiculous though. Each article comprised of nothing more than a single paragraph which describes the unique characteristics of the character and then a second paragraph (the same paragraph in fact) which did nothing more than summanarize the plot of the game. It seems to be the same for the Final Fight 3 articles.

I'm keeping Maki, but I might merge Carlos, Lucia and Dean. This isn't really so much an issue of revelance, but rather expandibility. Sure Poison, El Gado and Andore were playable characters in FFR. But FFR is a pretty obscure game and there's not much in that game that couldn't be summanarized about in a phrase or two. Also, what is the source for Lucia's surname, Morgan? Jonny2x4 02:48, 19 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, El Gado, Eddie E, the last boss in FF, Andore(pretty much all the enemies in FF cept for the few who appeared in sfa and sf3) are obscure characters, but I think Posion has made a mark because of her constant comeo, being a playable character in the cancelled allstar game, and her controversal origin; in other words, her article can be quite long w/o any fandom references like say, posion is datin Hugo or whatever.

Speaking of fandom, what is the reason behind Dean, where ppl originally said he had claws or whatever. I think Carlos, Lucia, and Dean should should be merged since Capcom didn't really developed character's background well enough. I mean, since I never looked at her article here, I imagined Lucia's article might be "She is a cop in FF3, who looks a lot like Blaze in Streets of Rage." So yeah, I think they should merged.

I wonder if the Charlie and Chun-li relationship is mentioned in Wiki. If so, should be delete it since it is fandom.--Doomzaber 22:32, 20 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

CVG Assessment edit

This is in regards to the request for this page to be assessed, made at the CVG Assessment page. I have left this article's rating at Start-class. Here are a few suggestions:

The personality/relationships section needs to be rewritten, it's filled with OR. Other than that, the article is pretty solid, though it needs referencing badly. Clear the speculation, fanfiction and OR from the P/R section and refernce this article, and renominate it for Assessment! I promise not to take so long to look at it next time. --PresN 23:05, 3 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Zeku/Genryusai inconsistency edit

According to Tiamat's plot guide (or somewhere else, I don't remember), they made Genryusai (the Maki's father) into Zeku's master after Zeku's introduction in the Alpha series to explain why Guy has two different Bushin-ryu masters (since the style can only have one successor). Where exactly does it state this? For some reason, they never explained this inconsistency. Jonny2x4 (talk) 05:50, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well played through SFA3 MAX with Maki to see if there was anything there, but all it has there is just her ranting about being Bushin's successor. A lot. Not a mention of Zeku either in all that oddly enough. What source did Tiamat cite if any?--Kung Fu Man (talk) 20:18, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
