In this way the individual can 'feel' the distance to objects" I don't care what fancy sounding title the 'reference' to this is wrapped in, thats garbage; magnets have nothing to do with IR or ultrasonic fields. Pure fantasy. Magnets react to magnetic fields. Period.

- This wording has since been clarified to "Magnetic implants can also be used as an interface for portable devices to create other new "senses""

Anesthesia Legality edit
Exactly what issues are there purchasing local anesthetics (pretty much anywhere in the world, but let's assume US since we have the largest population of people stupid enough to want to operate on nerve-dense parts of their own body at home with no medical training)?
- I can buy topical local anesthetic easily at any drug store in the form of lidocaine creams; although those would be unsuitable for surgery without washing the carrier residue off heavily first, sterilization is required anyway.
- I can buy unlimited amounts of ACS Reagent grade benzocaine from Amazon of all places.
- Fischer Scientific has no issues selling me USP grade lidocaine, prilocaine, or procaine with no additional restrictions as an individual.
These drugs can't be abused and have never been regulated in most countries. I'm calling a combination of BS and "nobody ever bothered trying to find them.". General anesthetics are a different matter but no real doctor would consider a general for a minor implant surgery; even then, diethyl ether can be purchased by anyone and anesthesia induced using that using the same procedures that were formerly used in surgery if someone were dead set on having a different person with no medical training make the procedure much more dangerous for them.
