picture edit

The picture is too scandalous.

I never understood why people called Macy Gray ugly. I think she's HOT! PennyGWoods 18:43, 18 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Macy is awesome, her music is awesome. Music suffers if you write it to top charts, but it peaks when you write exactly what you want and people enjoy it. I didn't enjoy it, I LOVED IT JayKeaton 03:34, 6 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hot 100 Chart Positions edit

I cannot find where most of these songs even charted on the Billboard Hot 100. The only two songs by Macy I can find debuting are "I Try" and "Request Line." Can somebody supply a reliable source for the chartings listed, or shall I alter them? GassyGuy 02:31, 29 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I usually go by billboard.com, which yielded this page for Macy Gray Singles. It only shows three charting singles ("Sexual Revolution", "I Try", and "Do Something" -- NOT "Request Line") and none of them match the article's table. I use this site for UK singles (couldn't direct link - just search on "Macy Gray") which also doesn't match. I say let's compare notes and be bold! Hoof Hearted 13:00, 12 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Aha! Many of the remaining singles are charted on billboard.com under the accompanying artists. Note that the album links in the table go to another group, not one of Gray's albums. Still, the peak positions do not match. It appears that an anon recently made some dubious changes. I propose breaking the singles table into two tables - one for Gray's own singles, and a second for singles which featured her. And I would go by the data on billboard.com and everyhit.com. Agreed? Hoof Hearted 13:20, 12 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I didn't have this page on my watchlist as I thought I did. Your changes are a big improvement. Thanks for that. I find billboard.com's chart summaries are not actually the best but they're certainly more accurate than the previous numbers. GassyGuy 13:05, 22 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Birthyear edit

There is new dispute over Macy's birthyear. Was she born in 1970 (the most common year used across the internet, including IMDB), or 1967 (a date that I recently changed back to 1970 because no proof was offered)? Hotwine8 03:21, 28 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

http://www.cleveland.com/homegrown/index.ssf?/homegrown/more/macy/grayarea.html. This site claims drivers license records for Ohio gives her date of birth as 6 September 1967, however this site http://www.veromi.net/Summary.asp?fn=Natalie&mn=R&ln=McIntyre&dobmm=&dobdd=&doby=&city=Canton&state=OH&age=&vw=&Search=&Input=&x=64&y=10 gives her age as 40, which would make her born in 1969 and on ancestry.com US Public Records gives her birth year as 1968. I´ve changed the birth year to 1969 since I find that most trustable. Karbuncle (talk) 19:00, 24 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Macy Gray has the ugliest voice I've ever heard in my life.

Her voice is part of her appeal. Anyway, we need to find some information about what she actually DID between Big and her last studio album four years before that one. Was she taking a break? Did she spend all that time writing the album? Honing her skills perhaps? Family problems? It is a gap that needs to be filled if we can find out what she did JayKeaton 23:49, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Someone has vandalized the bio section.

Macy Gray is awesome by kenyalover2003 edit

I am a hard rock fan and always have been. However, when I first heard macy Gray's music I was immediately mesmerized by her vocals. I hope she continues in music and is around for a very long time.

Neopets edit

There was a Macy Gray neopet but it was removed on 2001 or 2002 for legal reasons (maybe 'cause the macy gray neopet was holding a ray gun :O). --frogger3140 (talk) 23:40, 6 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Years active edit

How come years active starts in 1998 but she is pictured singing in 1995? Does that mean she was signed in 1998? or she had her first hit in 98? Seems a bit unfair to only describe some as active when they have commercial success. Maybe "Years commercially active" would be better Domminico (talk)

Academy/Punk'd edit

Gray opened up a music academy called The Macy Gray Music Academy in 2005 and it was the scene for an episode of MTV's Punk'd because of "black mold in the building".

This looks to be 2 different sentences strung together, and what does the black mold refer to? Also since it's a quote, it should probably be cited to help understand what it means. 12.162.122.5 (talk) 15:44, 29 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Two incomplete thoughts in one sentence? edit

"Gray suffers from bipolar disorder and is an active supporter." -rudyard (talk) 19:21, 20 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Date of birth edit

Note that I have removed the date of birth entirely until a reliable source is provided for verification. As at least three separate dates have been provided, all of which are poorly sourced, it has been removed altogether to meet WP:BLPSOURCES requirements. --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 21:10, 8 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

It still seems to be unclear though the reference [1] says 1969...although the article says 1967?Theroadislong (talk) 20:59, 18 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Mother's name, Macy's name edit

The article states that her mother was called McIntyre, and then she later married someone called McIntyre. She can't have been called McIntyre before she married him, unless she just happened to marry someone with the same surname. Also, what was Macy's name at birth? Jones? Comments by HAPPYCASSIUS moved to here from elsewhere. edit

This is Macy Gray. I was notified that my edits were not constructive and were reverted and to respond here. Wiki has the WRONG birth date. and even more crazy - The WRONG image. (the lady in that picture is NOT me and was inserted by someone I've never heard of. Some very false history, particularly that i was a mute until I was 7 which is so wrong and random. wtf. some information that has very little to do with me or my career and was ALSO incorrect. Every time i attempt to correct it, wiki reverts it. The false information is damaging to me and grossly misrepresents me on several levels. please get back to me on making these changes asap. if not i'll have my lawyer call you in publishing false and stupid and insulting information and releasing pictures of people that aren't the people. if you're going to call yourself an "encyclopedia" then get your facts straight before you let people print and say and edit and add whatever they want. the whole "edited, redistributed - by ANYONE - maybe should be re-thunk. Accent edit

Natalie Renée McIntyre in the lead, but no acccent in infobox. Which is correct? Melonkelon (talk) 05:37, 13 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

GAN edit

@Trillfendi: I do not believe the article is anywhere near prepared enough for a GA review. There are several parts that lack citation, and either require further expansion and revision. I would suggest withdrawing the nomination to do further work on the article, as this would be an automatic/quick fail in my book. Also, according to this edit history, you are not one of the primary editors of the article. It is usually recommended to consult one of the primary editors before putting an article for nomination. Either way, just wanted to let you know. Aoba47 (talk) 19:40, 7 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Aoba47: I didn’t notice those citation needed templates but I’m sure they could be easily addressed from what I see. It didn’t take me being a primary editor on it to recommend it for GA status (I try to remain neutral on those fronts) but I believe if fixed, and then nominated it could be ready for proper review. Thanks. Trillfendi (talk) 19:49, 7 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • @Trillfendi: Thank you for the response. However, I do not believe that these fixes will be as easy as you are making them out. There are several issues with the prose. Just look at the "Other work" subsection, and you can see that it will need to be written to be more cohesive. There are also several spots throughout the article that have single sentence paragraphs, which are discouraged. Several items from the "Filmography" table are unreferenced and not mentioned in the body of the article. The same applies to the "Awards and nominations" table. Even the lead has its own set of issues. This sentence (She is known for her distinctive raspy voice and a singing style heavily influenced by Billie Holiday) is not supported by anything in the article. This article will require a substantial amount of work to be ready for a GA review (in my opinion, a lot of rewriting and revision from top to bottom), but I wish you the best of luck with it. references edit

In references (number 54) there is a link to 429records.com, somebody has bought website and changed it affiliate website, so I think link must be removed and leave only link to archive.org.

Can anybody do it? When I try to o it, all just brokes up. I have changed it, can anybody please check if i did it right? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mark.barkan (talkcontribs) 12:05, 26 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Op-ed article edit

I don't believe that the section talking about Macy Gray's op-ed is accurate or NPOV: "On June 17, 2021, she wrote an article hostile to the American flag, stating that the flag should be replaced with something more anti-American." Nowhere in her article does she say that the flag should be "replaced with something more anti-American"—quoting from the article, she says this: "America is great. It is beautiful. Pure, it ain’t. It is broken and in pieces." This doesn't sound like she's advocating for an anti-American flag. confermusearename (talk, contribs) Have a nice day! 14:52, 19 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Updating the page edit

The info about Gray stops dead in 2016. No mention of her 2018 album, further films, or future projects, e.g. she was revealed to be the artist representing Ohio in the upcoming American Song Contest. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:8309:2184:4900:F9D4:95B3:A4CD:45E0 (talk) 07:48, 10 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
