This needs to be something more than just a directory of external links - see What Wikipedia is not. Also, might List of Macintosh User Groups in the UK be a better title? Loganberry (Talk) 22:58, 23 August 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing this out, I will (attempt) to add some relevant information to go with the links. I have also added a link to the UK Mac Users Group list of links so maybe the individual links here should be deleted as anyone who is interested can go through that link to obtain individual user group contact details. Six years later, let's talk about the links again. Currently, the first link is the same as the second link but without the summary text. I'm replacing the first line with the Apple Advisory Board's "Apple User Group Resource" website, and leaving the User Group Finder as the second link. back in the old days

....MUGs used to be almost a cultural thing that geeks got together for. I remember BMUG, Berkeley Mac User Group of which I was a member off. Waaay back, we used to hold annual used software/code books sales, tournaments in Marathon, and have special speakers come to talk. Bungie, back before they were big, came and showed us the beta for Myth. i won a t-shirt in the raffle.

Yes, it is fun to remember back. But the enthusiasm is gone from meeting in groups, I think. Back in the day (around 1985) I attended the first MacWorld Conf. I thought it was the world conference for Macintosh, but found out when I got to SF it was the MacWorld magazine conference, w/speakers. It was good anyway and my son and I met Guy Kawasaki, the first software evangelist for Apple/Mac. I was on the first board of directors for Los Angeles Mac Group (they avoided the word 'user' to be more professional.) I also started the Northrop Macintosh Users Group (giving competitive advantage in an aerospace company) and was invited to Cupertino to be on a board of user group leaders for three days. John Sculley discussed our recommendations with us for an hour. It was fantastic; many great memories. PS: Once, LAMG had a kick-off mtg for MS Office for Mac, with dinner prior w/Bill Gates. Being a corp type on the board, I sent word around the table that I would like to have his business card. Being Bill Gates, he didn't have one, but his PR person said he would send me one, which he did. It is lost somewhere here in our So.CA house.
