PREDECESSORS edit

Under the picture we are told the MG ZS is a predecessor (and the Rover 45). Of course the correct models are the MG ZT (and the Rover 75). I don't know how to correct that. Queryit (talk) 02:06, 21 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

I would disagree: the ZT/75 is a much bigger car and the ZS/45 is more appropriate. Indeed the ZT is sold in some markets as the MG 7. Warren (talk) 13:57, 21 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Some Facts: height(mm),length(mm),width(mm),wheelbase(mm),weight(kg). MG6:1472,4651,1827,2705,2040; MGZT,1410,4740,1780,2740,1940; MGZS,1380,4530,1700,2620,1720. Clearly the MG6 is the biggest car of the three, though not much bigger than the ZT (except in weight). The ZS is significantly smaller in every dimension being little larger than a "supermini". The Rover 75 (Rover equivalent of the MGZT) is mentioned as being in the ancestry of the MG6. No evidence is adduced of any ancestral link back to the ZS because, of course, there is none. The relevance of the ZT,MG 7 equivalence entirely escapes me. Can someone now please correct the details about predecessors? The dimensions are from the Autotrader website and are probably reliable. The thing to remember here is that there are no hard-and-fast rules when it comes to defining predecessors and successors of car models - it's all pretty notional, and not particularly important IMHO. But going by those dimensions, the MG6 is between the ZS and ZT in overall length and wheelbase. Given that the Rover 400/45/MG ZS goes back to 1995 (and 1992 as a Honda model), and that cars in general get bigger (and heavier) in succeeding generations, it seems reasonable to consider the MG6 to be more of a ZS successor than a ZT successor. An interesting comparison would be with the VW Passat B3 (of 1992) and the Passat B6 (of 2009). Overall lengths: 4575 vs. 4765 mm, wheelbase 2625 vs. 2709 mm (according to WP).
