Great article! Some comments edit

Hi, my name is Amanda, and I'm a senior taking a class on behavioral ecology. I read this article and made a few comments based on the content provided.

This article is definitely strong - it contains basic information about the beetle, such as a description of its appearance, information about its habitat, and geographical distribution. There is also a gallery included which shows close up photos of the beetle to see details, as well as photos of beetles in their habitats, on rocks, and in deserts. An interesting characteristic of this beetle is that the larvae are insectivores, and attack bee nests, consuming the host along with provisions. Adults do not do this, they feed on flowers or leaves of brittlebush.

Although this article contains basic information, it could use a few more categories to create a more comprehensive display of information. These 3 categories could be ecology and behavior, predators, and life cycle. Although we know a little bit about how this beetle obtains its sustenance to survive, an ecology and behavior section could be useful to understand more about how these beetles act during their lifespan, between stages of being a larvae and an adult. Additionally, an ecology section could contain some history about the beetle, or where they stand now in terms of status as a species. Secondly, a category about predators could be useful. We know from the description that these beetles are somewhat predatory themselves, as they, as larvae, attack bee nests and consume the hosts and provisions. It would be useful to include a section solely about predation, so readers can be informed of whether the beetle itself has predators, and how they manage to navigate difficult situations. Finally, a category about life cycle would be useful as well. It is not directly said in the article when adults emerge, and I think this could be useful information to understand more about the life and behavior of these beetles.

In the talk page, this article is listed as a stub class article per Wikipedia's content assessment, and also is categorized as of low importance for the Insects Wikiproject and as mid-importance to the Beetles Wikiproject. All of these ratings make sense to me - the article, although containing basic information about the beetle, lacks a lot of significant or meaningful information that would really contribute to readers' comprehensive understanding of the beetle. The low-importance categorization for the Insects Wikiproject makes sense, as there is not a ton of information about the beetle to provide relevant progress to the Insects Wikiproject. The mid-importance categorization under the Beetles Wikiproject makes sense, since these beetles have a unique characteristic, since they are insectivorous. This can help contribute to a larger understanding of beetles and the unique traits they have. Amandayu19 (talk) 00:56, 16 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
