Louella?

Was this spelling used, or is it a typo? It's not in any of the acessible sources, but the Nevada State Journal is behind a paywall. PamD 11:54, 20 June 2021 (UTC)

Your query was a bit confusing, @PamD: The given name of this bio subject was spelled as "Luella" and not "Louella." I'm puzzled by your seeming assertion that the spelling that I used was "not in any of the acessible [sic] sources" because this isn't an accurate statement. Not only was this the spelling used by Women in Red for its Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Missing articles by occupation/Politicians - United States list (which is the link I used to create this bio), but the spelling is easily verifiable by simply clicking on three of the major citations that I had already included with the new bio before you posted your query: 1.) "Luella Kirkbride Drumm." Reno, Nevada: Nevada Women’s History Project, retrieved online June 19, 2021; 2.) Cegavske, Barbara K. Political History of Nevada (Twelfth Edition). "Assembly Resolution No. 12 (Palludan)–Memorializing the late Assemblywoman Luella Drumm." Carson City, Nevada: Nevada State Assembly, 1963. If you were asking about whether or not one of the newspaper reports of her activities used the spelling, "Louella," however, then that answer would be "yes." At least one of the newspapers spelled her name incorrectly, and that's why I chose to use that spelling for that citation (for the sake of accuracy in that particular citation). Knowing how thorough you are as an editor and believing that you sincerely do appreciate the fact that I am an experienced editor, I'm going to assume good faith on your part. @47thPennVols: I'm confused by the "Formative years and family" section, which uses the spelling "Louella", differing from the spelling used in the infobox as "birth name". The only source cited for that paragraph does not use that spelling. I don't see "Louella" in any of the sources to which I have access. The Women in Red list is not a source. I really don't know what you mean by "assume good faith" here, as I don't see any reason to doubt my puzzlement. Perhaps I didn't explain myself clearly. If she was named "Louella" by her parents but changed to use "Luella" later, I suggest that this should be stated somewhere in the article for clarity. PamD 13:33, 30 June 2021 (UTC)

@PamD: Thanks so much for raising the question about Luella's birth name. I was finally able to make contact with the researcher who had created a source for her birth name as "Mary Louella Kirkbride," and the sourcing re: her name proved not to be as solid as I was initially led to believe. (It took me about a week of digging and talking with multiple other researchers, and it turns out that the source of the confusion arose from the handwriting of her name as "Mary Louella Kirkbride" on the back of a photo that was part of a historical society collection.) So, I'm now confident that she was "Luella" and not "Louella" or "Mary Louella/Luella," and have gone ahead and corrected the spellings in the "Formative years" paragraph.
