Initial critics edit
This article confounds the father and son -- note nothing happens between 84 and the 60s...why? Because the father did the stuff in the 80s bc, had his triumph in 81bc and died soon thereafter. The son comes of age 20 years later and does various things including becoming consul. See in page 528 here. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 23:52, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
It was indeed the elder Murena that was defeated in the second Mithridatic war, whilst his son was prosecuted for electoral malpractice in the consular elections for 62 C.E. If proof is needed (as i have so far only ever used wikipedia to cram information into my face) check out Cicero's Pro Murena, which was given on behalf of the younger Murena and makes occasional references to his father's campaign in Asia.
Absolutely right, folks edit
You're absolutely right, folks. This article is not usable as such; that is, I would never refer to it. Better not to have done it. Two articles are required, possibly three: one on the pater, one on the filius, and one on the family. The Murenas are major players of the late republic. They deserve better. However, it is likely to be a big job. Attalus has dozens of refs. Have you never heard of Attalus? www.Attalus.com, I think. They must have gotten some money from somewhere as they are doing bigger and better things. It sure is useful to the classicist. It sort of updates Smith in the world of the Internet. I understand you may not have the time, especially as you are not indoctrinated into WP, which takes some programming knowledge. I don't have time for it myself right now. One thing leads to another around this place. I can definitely say, the criticism of its accuracy is certainly true. Someone out there should do it. There is enough formatting in the file to copy. Until that is done, it can't be trusted. Attalus, as I say will provide ready ancient references but you will need some viewable books and articles also.Botteville (talk) 01:14, 12 February 2018 (UTC)
