Cadets

An editor has inserted some extensive material on affiliated cadet units. We do not normally include material on cadet units but, if we were to, it would need to demonstrate notability without giving undue weight to the topic (WP:UNDUE). At the very least it needs to be properly cited with regimental gazette issue numbers and page numbers (WP:CITE) and links added to other articles (WP:MOSLINK). I have drafted a cut-down version having regard to WP:UNDUE. It still needs properly citing as described above. Dormskirk (talk) 20:18, 19 July 2018 (UTC)

Pipe band- camouflage

"It wears its distinctive Hodden Grey tartan so that band members can supposedly blend in with the environment as camouflage."

This passage is misleading and erroneous. The traditional hodden grey cloth was selected for the uniform of the original London Scottish as one version of the drab or grey uniforms favoured by the original Rifle Volunteers both for its smartness and its suitability as an aid to concealment in the field (as distinct from camouflage, referrring to the use of disruptive patterning in cloth, paint and materials imitating foliage, which was a later development). Clearly this was not the purpose of the hodden grey uniforms of the modern pipe band, which is a purely cermonial function maintaining the traditions of the London Scottish. This is misleading. The article in the linked source reference merely suggests the London Scottish pipe band maintained the tradition of military piping in London begun by the pipers of the Loyal North Britons, an earlier volunteer unit formed in London during the French Revolutionary/Napoleonic Wars.

"possibly the earliest recorded instance of a pipe band.

Given the forty year gap between the disbandment of the Loyal North Britons in 1816 and the forming of the London Scottish in 1859, together with the continuous traditions of the regular Highland Regiments, this claim really has little basis and risks coming across as regimental puffery.

I suggest instead: "Founded shortly after the regiment was raised, the Regimental Pipes and Drums of The London Scottish continues a tradition of military piping in London dating back to the Napoleonic wars, when Scots first formed a volunteer corps in the capital, the 'Loyal North Britons,' and pipers entertained the public in Hyde Park."
