Length of Marathon

I reverted the conversion of 26 miles 385 yds to 26.21875 miles for the principal reason that it is usual, when using the imperial system, to quote the distance in miles and yards. If you want to be pedantic, the official distance of the the marathon is 42195 metres, which is 1.2 cm (exactly) or half an inch (approximately) more than 26 miles 385 yards. If the official distance is converted to miles and decimals of a mile, you get 26.21876 miles. Martinvl (talk) 18:35, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

As you mentioned, the official distance is expressed in the metric system. I have updated the introduction to the article as a consequence, and by respecting WP:MOSNUM (there is no specific tie between the expressed length and the unit used, hence we should use the official unit). I would have used the Template:convert but that would yield to 26.21875 miles, which as you mentioned is unclear. Xionbox^₪ 16:08, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Interesting that this page contains a list of the BBC presenters who have led the coverage of the marathon and yet doesn't give the same amount of coverage to the men and women who have actually run the marathon... 151.226.118.134 (talk) 09:44, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

History of the mini marathon

I think you're being a bit dismissive of the youngsters - they're going on to become decent runners in their own right, and have inspired others across the world. As far as I can tell, the mini marathon actually started by inspiration from the main marathon, among the youngsters manning the feeding station just west of the Blackwall Flyover in Greenwich. The next year, the local Church organised a charity fund-raising fun-run for them in Greenwich Park, about 3.5 miles, a couple of weeks after the race itself. They then talked that around the 4 local schools, who took up the idea and found a way to fit it into the spare capacity at the front-end of the marathon itself. Deaths in the London Marathon

The Wikipedia page states Claire Squires as the most recent death in the London Marathon, but there was, subsequent to that, a male competitor dying in 2014. Someone might wish to amend the page appropriately. 82.41.44.46 (talk) 19:37, 22 September 2015 (UTC)

Route map - Red and Green lines

I was wondering what the red and green separate lines over the first two miles represent. I could not find any explanation. Shouldn't an quick note about that be part of the caption? JimKaatFan (talk) 16:57, 25 February 2020 (UTC)

Comparison with Great Manchester Run

The pages for both the London marathon and the Great Manchester Run claim their respective races to be the 3rd largest mass running events in the UK, both referencing eachother as an example of a larger one (along with the Great North Run).
