Copyedit edit

Article is dominated by MPs in local constituencies and hostory of the council. Needs a good strong edit to refocus on the borough. MRSC 09:17, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Does the borough have a separate existence to its council? Surely information about 'place' should be on the individual pages that are linked to under the 'constituent areas' subheading. philcrbk 13:00, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Further to thinking about that, should former current and former residents include people (such as WG Grace, Jim Connell and Frederick John Horniman) who never lived in this borough? - perhaps they should be added to other pages, eg Metropolitan Borough of Lewisham page? philcrbk 13:07, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

No. That would be awful to manage. If someone was born during the met boro era but died during the London borough era, how should they be listed? The council election stuff could probably be spun out to an elections article. The article is still a mess with a load of random years now wikilinked for no apparent reason. One Lewisham Place.

This image is not in Lewishm but in Canada, someone may of put it over here by mistake, but it's not suppposed to be here. It's actually not One Lewisham Place but One London Place. Pafcool2 13:32, 9 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Proposed merger edit

I proposed to merge the content from Lewisham London Borough Council into this article. The titles of the articles are confusing as the Council is coterminous with the Borough. EdwinHJ | Talk 22:35, 13 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

I am against your merge. Lewisham Council as the Local Authority should have its own article. The article on the Borough itself has far more information apart from that of its Local Authority. QuintusPetillius (talk) 19:49, 5 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Against. See:

London Borough of Lambeth / Lambeth London Borough Council

City of Westminster / Westminster City Council

London Borough of Tower Hamlets / Tower Hamlets London Borough Council

London Borough of Hackney / Hackney London Borough Council

And so on. Not all Boroughs have separate pages for their councils, but many do. A Borough is a spatial unit; a geographical area, the borders of which are coterminus with the boundaries of the authority of local councils, but they are not the same thing. They deserve separate pages in the same way that, say Ukraine - a geographical area currently defined by the boundaries of a nation state - should not be merged with Government of Ukraine: coterminus but not correspondent.--Cooper42 16:13, 27 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Given the prcedent for Boroughs and Councils having separate pages, and that the merger has been suggested for over a year with nothing done about it, I'm removing the merge tag. --Cooper42 13:05, 29 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
