Which protocols currently use lollipop sequence numbering? Does BGP use it? -- The Anome 10:01, 26 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Why? edit

This article needs an explanation of why the odd name. Is it integers drawn on a number line? — RevRagnarok Talk Contrib 19:32, 23 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

See the image: http://www.iphelp.ru/faq/21/images/1578700418/graphics/04fig10.gif

If you draw the sequence out, it's a line with a circle atop it, hence the name. What this article *does* need is a fuller explanation of "Lollipop sequence numbering was originally believed to resolve the ambiguity problem in cyclic sequence numbering schemes, and was used in OSPF version 1 for this reason. Later work showed that this was not the case" - at the very least, a link to the referenced "later work"

Yeah, this needs to be expanded. I'm not finding any info on what the problem is.

"So the linear space is better than the lollipop space, but the lollipop space also works." http://archives.neohapsis.com/archives/microsoft/various/ospf/2001-q3/0393.html
