Is this

Llys-y-fran Reservoir Dam - geograph.org.uk - 673878

I think this image was taken during the construction of the dam/park (in 1972), and the winding road going away is, I think, part of the course but as I haven't been to an event there (yet), I can't be sure. I will check it out some time. I may go to the next hillclimb (in May). In the meantime, I've been in touch with Swansea Motor Club for info. Tony Holkham (Talk) 21:32, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

Combining sections

At present there are two sections 'Reservoir and Country Park' and 'Amenities' which seem to cover similar content. Should they be combined?SovalValtos (talk) 16:00, 12 October 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for the swift reply User:Tony Holkham. Adding to 'History' makes sense. As the talk page is not greatly frequented perhaps a week or two delay before setting to work in disentangling the refs would be in order? William Penfro Rowlands

It is currently said (without source) that he was born in Llys y Fran. A perhaps not reliable source [1] says "born at Llys Brân, Maenclochog". Is that perhaps a spelling variant of Llys y Fran or does Llys Brân refer to something else such as a farm or hamlet not in Llys y Fran but instead in Maenclochog community? If Maenclochog perhaps he should be removed.SovalValtos (talk) 02:05, 14 October 2019 (UTC)

There is a memorial to Rowlands near the dam close to the cottage (ruins?) where he was born, according to ref 4 of William Penfro Rowlands article. [2]. Will this do? Seems no biography at Dict of Welsh Biog. Tony Holkham (Talk) 21:36, 14 October 2019 (UTC)

PMSA pretty good; I had not gone to the location tab when first checking the ref. Another potential source [3] needs the help of a Welsh speaker/geographer to help elucidate what Dan-y-coed and Cwmderi are. I will not remove him now.SovalValtos (talk) 22:45, 14 October 2019 (UTC)

Cwm deri (oak valley) is marked on this old map with some unnamed buildings. It's not on the modern OS map. Dan yr coed means "under the trees", presumably the name of the cottage. Tony Holkham (Talk) 08:09, 15 October 2019 (UTC)

Oak Valley and the presumed cluster of buildings are shown on the right bank of the stream and over the boundary and in Wiston [4]. Despite my WP:OR I am in little doubt that Llys y Fran would have been the place he would have said he was born. I hoped Oxford Music Online or The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians might help with a reliable source but I will not subscribe to find out. Might a fellow editor have access to Grove? Perhaps someone from the local chapel/church might help?SovalValtos (talk) 09:56, 15 October 2019 (UTC)
