Private life edit

I've just removed her from the "Lesbian actors" category: AFAIK, there are no references to this Liz Smith as being a lesbian. -- The Anome 17:10, 24 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Liz Smith is indeed a lesbian woman, and for some reason someone keeps removing the info about her long-term partner from the article. Someone obviously thinks it's a slur or something, which is very insulting to lesbian women! Sah10406 18:27, 9 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
This is no reference to her being one and she states she likes men, see here. A Bio on the Wikipedia must be correct and cite its sources.--BSTemple (talk) 17:00, 13 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Bin liner edit

Surely the trivia about her inventing the bin liner is a joke? 158.223.1.31 12:50, 1 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
It's not, I added that. She was on the Paul O'Grady show and they were talking about it breifly; I don't know how I'd cite it though. :S 84.70.45.174 16:30, 11 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Date of birth edit

In the article it gives Liz's dob as 11 December 1921 YET reference 1 for her biography has it as 1925? The link to the observer article dated Oct 2007 says she's 85, so would fit the 1921 date. HOWEVER there does not appear to be any Betty SMITH'S birth's registered in 1921 on the North Lincolnshire Council's online register of births, I looked to try and clear up the confusion.MBorrill (talk) 20:40, 1 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'm 99% sure 1925 could not be correct, she's older than that. Sometimes people just don't appear in the birth indexes, so she could just be on of those cases?--UpDown (talk) 11:03, 2 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Your quite right that BMD events are often missed off from the GRO [St Catherine's] index. However the North Lincolnshire Council isn't the GRO index, it has been compiled from the Registry Offices books a database of the actual Register Office books for the BMD events for the Glanford District this covers Scunthorpe. As she was was born in the area her birth should have been recorded here and less likely to be missed off.MBorrill (talk) 15:58, 4 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have now solved the riddle why there are no birth register entries for a Betty Smith in 1921 because she her birth name was Betty Gleadle. An article regarding her MBE was published in the Scunthorpe Telegraph on 14th July 2009 http://www.thisisscunthorpe.co.uk/news/Liz-Smith-gets-MBE/article-1162904-detail/article.html which gives her real name. Cross referencing with the North Lincolnshire Register Office index locates the birth http://www.northlincs.gov.uk/AF/an/default.aspx/RenderForm/?F.Name=YFRvq8osHRj MBorrill (talk) 05:50, 14 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

The BFI database has checked her records which reveal she was born in Norfolk. They also say she was born in 1922. Crisso (talk) 00:44, 10 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Looking at the BFI site it quite clearly states Glandford B., Norfolk registration district which is wrong Glanford B. [Brigg] is in Lincolnshire and the registration district for Scunthorpe area which Crosby is now a part of. The BFI have got their facts completly wrong. Semi-protected edit request on 27 December 2016 edit

I would like to add Category:Royal Navy personnel of World War II to the category section of this page to reflect the subject's service in the Women's Royal Naval service during that conflict. 86.23.18.214 (talk) 17:50, 27 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Would Category:Women's Royal Naval Service ratings be appropriate? What about her time in the Royal Navy? Martinevans123 (talk) 17:58, 27 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
Note: Marking this as answered until the user responds. st170etalk 00:32, 28 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much for your suggestion; I have now edited her Wikipedia page. I would therefore like to remove Category:Royal Navy personnel of World War II from the category section of this page.
