Live at the Venetian – Las VegasLive at The Venetian – Las Vegas — Caps for proper noun —Justin (koavf)TCM☯ 03:35, 23 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • Here "The Venetian" is a name within a name. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:33, 23 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. The Venetian is a proper noun which includes the word "The". Jafeluv (talk) 07:17, 23 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. However much we may wish that the Blue Man Group had recognized "The Venetian" to be a proper noun, they titled their album, "Live at the Venetian - Las Vegas"[1]. --Atemperman (talk) 17:55, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
    • I understand where you're coming from, but the Blue Man Group has their capitalization rules (if any), we have ours. I don't think the BMG is an authority on what is a proper noun and what isn't. By the way, their official site gives the album name as "Live At The Venetian ® - Las Vegas"... The horror! Jafeluv (talk) 19:57, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
      • Hmmm. What's more persuasive to me is that the official site capitalizes all the words, whereas other sources don't capitalize either at or the. This to me says that there's no consistent usage and we are free to pick anything reasonable that can be agreed upon by interested editors. "Live at The Venetian" seems reasonable to me. I still have an academic disagreement, though, with the "they have their rules; we have ours" position. "Live at the Venetian" is itself a proper noun, even if it does not accord with standard practices in English. Thus we have the R.E.M. album "Lifes Rich Pageant" rather than "Life's Rich Pageant". --Atemperman (talk) 22:58, 31 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
