Talk:Lists of corporate headquarters by city

Deletion

edit

Okay, here's why I created this page, and why I did so in spite of the general distate for lists of lists. Yes, you can look for a list page on the search box, but there is no common manner of naming these pages. Some are "list of companies in city." Some are "list of corporate headquarters in city." Some are simply within the city page. There are at least six different wordings and possibly more I didn't think of to look for. If it was easy to do what is suggested instead of having this page, I wouldn't have bothered. I needed the information, suspected I wasn't the only one, and believe having this page is significantly more friendly than requiring users to imagine every possible wording for such pages that different editors might come up with.

If we wanted to go change the names of all the pages this points to so they had a common title I would agree with the stated rationale for deletion, but as it is I think the page actually has merit. I also think this page is easier to update than ensuring that any future lists of corporate headquarters by city conform to a common title. Thehappysmith (talk) 14:22, 25 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

My opinion:We need a category—Category:List articles of corporate headquarters by city, not a "List of list of.." page. —Magic.Wiki (talk) 15:50, 25 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
That's a good idea. I don't know how to create those, though... it's probably something really stupidly easy... Thehappysmith (talk) 19:24, 25 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
A category sounds good. Category sorting can be used to make it alphabetical by city. None of the lists have "corporate headquarters" in the name and "companies" seems better to me. The category page can explain inclusion criteria. "List articles" is a term sometimes used internally by Wikipedia but not in categories for mainspace articles. I propose the simpler Category:Lists of companies by city as a subcategory of Category:Lists of companies which already contains Category:Lists of companies by country. Should some of the large countries have their own subcategory? PrimeHunter (talk) 15:17, 27 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
By the way, you create a category by saving anything non-empty, for example a parent category, on the category page. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:19, 27 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Fort Wayne, IN: Franklin Electric and Others

edit

I've worked at Franklin Electric, so I happen to know its corporate headquarters is located in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

There is a paragraph in the Fort Wayne page's Economy section that mentions Franklin , Steel Dynamics, and Sweetwater Sound among others.

I don't have the experience to create a "List of companies..." page/section for Fort Wayne, but it would be great if someone who does could. So, please consider adding Fort Wayne to the United States list. Thanks.
