Italian infantry regiments do not have "honor names" (from 1976 to 1992 some bataillons were named after battles). Their names originate from the old piedmontese infantry regiments which were elevated to brigade status in 1815/1831. The system of naming brigades after places instead of numbering them (like divisions) was continued after the italian reunification. The names do not stand for battle honors nor for any other honor. In 1939 the 2 regiment divisions were named after the old brigades - and in some cases received new names in order to recall or honor events of the past. Today inf. rgts. usually bear the names of the brigades to which they belonged until 1919. Most other regiments or also alpini bataillons are names after places, and not after battles. -- 216.72.28.7 (talk) 18:39, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

You're right. I don't know what a more apt name would be... "traditional name"??? The units that indeed have a honor name are:

• the Brigades: Pozzuolo del Friuli and Garibaldi
• the regiments: 9th Paras Col Moschin, 8th Artillery Pasubio and 33rd Signals Falzarego
• these regiments have a kind of honor name: Artillery Rgt. Voloire, 19th Cavalry Guide, 5th Artillery Superga and the 78th Infantry Lupi di Toscana
