Deletions edit

I deleted the following entry from the Other nations section:

Mosh (Oscar Osorio) (Hispana 1628, Hotel Pacífico)

I can't find any independent reference to "Mosh" or Oscar Osorio as a type designer, nor to a typeface named "Hispana 1628" or "Hotel Pacífico"; the only entries Google turns up are this WP page and mirrors of it. The entry was added by an unlogged user from IP 62.246.34.53 (10:06, 8 June 2005); it is the only contribution from that IP. I did find a brief "profile" that "Mosh (Oscar Osorio)" posted about himself at <http://www.artisticnetwork.net/artist/531>, which says that he works in graphics design, but makes no mention of type design. "In Need of Expert" edit

Regarding the Expert tag on the article, I've removed some chaff, added a little wheat, changed a couple blue links which pointed to the wrong person to red links, and verified that all redlinked names without typefaces mentioned beside them are actual notable type designers . . . but I wouldn't call myself an expert, so I'll leave the tag for now. If anyone can identify specific deficiencies with the list as it stands, please tell. Rivertorch (talk) 07:43, 5 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nationalities edit

How should we determine where to place designers on the list—where they were born, where they live now, where they were living when they designed their most famous typeface, or what? I refer to the placement of Zuzana Licko specifically, but there are probably other examples. Anyone know of any MOS guideline or precedent from other lists? What kind of article? edit

I think I can be regarded as a specialist on the subject, but I'm not sure what to do about this article. It doesn't seem very useful. The choice of type designers is rather haphazard, the categorization by country arbitrary. A complete list, even if limited to professional, contemporary type designers (but do we want to rule out the dead ones?) would consist of c. 1000 names. There is already such a list, or list-of-lists [1], industriously compiled by Luc Devroye. A link to his website could do, a similar thing for Wikipedia would require weeks or months of work. Other options: There could be a better description of what type designers do, how they are organized, where to find one if you need one, what to feed them, etc. Any opinions? What I think Should Be Done edit

This article needs to be separated into perhaps three different lists:

  • Designers, punch-cutters, and matrix makers of actual foundry type.
  • Designers of so-called "cold type."
  • Designers of entirely ephemeral digital "type."

I think these lists should be as inclusive and exhaustive as possible, as this might be the only place where a designer like Alfred R. Bosco might be listed in the whole of Wikipedia. Dutchman Schultz (talk) 03:36, 4 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Removed Sónia Rocha edit

I removed Sónia Rocha from the list of Portuguese designers. The link went to Professor Sónia (Maria Campos Soares da) Rocha, a biologist with no published work on typefaces.

The Portuguese type designer is a homonym, Sonia (Caramelo) da Rocha, designer of Asmaa, Aldi Roman, Gallus Titling, Galadriel, and Insight. I'm no expert, but I'd say she doesn't meet notability criteria, as very few sources discuss her or these types. 124.188.64.87 (talk) 00:36, 3 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
