Hello

I wanted to create this list so it can serve as a comprehensive list of all popular temples in Tamil Nadu. For now, I've started with a certain format that I liked, by looking at other lists. If someone feels the format needs to be changed, please suggest. Lotlil 07:45, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Praveen, Sure. We could do the chronological listing, but I wasn't sure if we would be able to date all temples (with citation). I think we would need some research to date many temples (esp. the several dozens of Saivite and Vaishnavite temples). In any case, I'm in the process of adding some more temples to the list - once it gets into a decent shape, we could rearrange the list in the best possible way. BTW, I realized yesterday that I was blocked for 24 hrs, somehow I had violated the 3RR the previous day... which tells me I need to be more careful :) If the block had to come, it came at a not-so-bad time, since I was busy at work for most of the time anyway. Tags

I'm going to assume good faith to the addition of the tags. I've been inactive on this article for a while for two reasons: I'm busy with some other article that I think is more important and I'm also waiting on a Saivite reference book that I think will add a lot of good material here. In any case, whatever information that's currently in the article has been amply cited. Anybody willing to add a tag, should remember to explain here what their concern is. Most of the citations are from Hindu, Sify.com, Chennaionline.com, official websites of the temples in question and indiantemples.com. The first four I think you'd agree are reliable. FYI, www.indiantemples.com is cited in FA articles - even Kannada related ones. I will assume good faith again and take it that you weren't aware of those instances. In any case, if you look at this page http://www.indiantemples.com/about.html under the "press reports and accolades" section, you can see for yourself whether it is reliable or not.

Now that the major part of my sources are covered, let me address the other links you've mentioned. I have not taken any "source" material from geocities or pichu.info etc. If you look carefully I have put them under the "stub" section and only as an indicator for the temple names. I did this because these webpages give information that are interesting, which the editors could go around find reliable citation for, if they see fit to be included.

The only two websites that I've taken minimal source material from and whose reliability is questionable is murugan.com and kaumaram.com. I was going to replace them with reliable citations, before removing the underconstruction tag. If it makes you feel better, go ahead and remove those websites. Lotlil 17:19, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Senthan, I used to be actively editing this list, but I have put it on hold for now since I'm working on a few other important articles. If you would like to use your pictures in Wiki, please read through the image use policy and the image help section. Reformat

I have a couple of suggestions:
1. We should make this a list, on the lines of List of Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu.
2. Also, a table format would make it more readable. Something like:

Name of temple | Location | Main Deity | Period Built | Built by | Notes

Spelling of Uttukuli

Cited source is http://murugan.org/temples/uttukuli.htm, but Wikipedia has an article with a H instead of a T (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uthukuli). Can this be cleared up? What is the correct spelling?
