In table 2, there is a reference to a President Thomas Hendricks, who I am pretty sure was never president. Any reason he is here, or is this a subtle joke

John Adams & Thomas Jefferson

Anyone able to clarify the meaning of Thomas Jefferson coming before John Adams on this list even though they are technically tied?? Georgia guy 17:43, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Gerald Ford cause of death

There has been no official announcement as to the cause of death of Gerald Ford. On wikipedia it has been comonly listed as heart failure but there is no external source to back that up at this point. Heart failure is a good educated guess given his recent health problems but it is still just speculation at this point. User:Chicago103 12:41, 28 Dec 2006 (CST)

No problem, it wasnt meant as a criticism toward your judgement as it is very likely that was the cause, its just that since wikipedia is sometimes quoted by news sources and we shouldnt be the ones jumping the gun when we dont even know ourselves.User:Chicago103 17:18, 28 Dec 2006 (CST)

I can't find any news reference to Ford's cause of death being "severe bowel instruction". All I can see is a few blog references, a few of which cite wikipedia as the source. This looks like it might be a prank. Can someone provide a citation?

From what I see as of today, no official cause of death has ever been released. I would strongly caution editors not to use the term "heart failure" to refer to any and all cardiac-related deaths. Heart failure is a distinct and specific disease and does not mean "a bad heart". It's like saying all respiratory system conditions are "lung cancer". Johnson, for instance, died of a heart attack, not of heart failure. --Charlene 04:34, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

I was the one who made the edit in saying Ford died of heart failure because I think its incomplete that we have the cause of death of every president dating back to 1799 and yet we dont know what happened to the most recent president to die. That is why I put the footnote to Ford's cause of death.

I think it is a very likely he did in fact die of heart failure because if you read news clippings about his last few hospitalizations in 2006 it pretty clear he was suffering from heart failure. In July 2006 he went to the hosptial for shortness of breath, in August 2006 he was at the Mayo Clinic for almost two weeks where he got a pacemaker installed as well as an angioplasty done, in October 2006 he was hospitalized for the last time for undisclosed "medical tests" but its not much of a jump to assume that it was because of complications of what he was suffering from in July and August.

I would say all that evidence points to advanced Congestive Heart Failure. Its also not much of a jump to assume thats what he died of on December 26, 2006. I dont think it was a heart attack since there are news articles saying that family members gathered at his bedside and were expecting him to go, so I dont think it was a sudden attack its just that his heart just slowly gave way.User:Chicago103 13:27, 26 Feb 2007 (CST)

Number of living former Presidents

I came to this page hoping to find a listing of the number of living former Presidents, by year. For example, it would appear that from the death of LBJ until the resignation of Nixon that there were no living former Presidents. I was curious how often this happens. Time of death?

I have a question-how do you do the time of death? I mean is it in the timezone they were in (Which is what I'm guessing) or something like EST. I'm guessing it was in the timezone they were in. (Though it would be interesting if one died on December 31st/January 1st and they died at 11PM or 1AM there time!)

My most recent edits

In my most recent edits to this article I fixed a couple citation errors, moved the presidential images/pictures, moved around a couple of the subsections (removing 2 altogether that seemed especially trivial), and simplified table format. In reformatting the table, I removed 3 columns: “Order of Birth”, was unnecessary here, as it may be found @ List of Presidents of the United States by date of birth, plus “Date of Burial” and “Place of Burial”, were both unnecessary here, as they may be found @ List of burial places of Presidents of the United States. To be specific, Bush was 94 years and 171 days old at his death (my quick rough calculation, note that both birth and death years were leap years). Carter was born on 1 Oct 1924 - roughly 3 1/2 months after Bush. So he is mostly certainly not older at this time. --Dcheney (talk) 06:19, 1 December 2018 (UTC)

Sort Deaths Column by Year?

When the date of death column is selected for the sorting order, it sorts by month (as noted in Note b). This doesn't seem like the most useful or intuitive option.
How can we keep the Month Day, Year format but sort by year (as is done in the death column in List of presidents of the United States by age#Table?

The table provided you with "an ordered list of presidents' deaths" before you changed it. The default sort order is by "order of death" and the far-left column sorts by order of death. Your stated reason for making the change was "to have the best of both worlds", which is not a compelling reason to change the table's layout. A dedicated column to sort months alphabetically is pointless, a dedicated column to sort years is redundant since two other columns also sort by year and with a specific purpose for doing so, and, splitting day & month from year leaves me asking, what's the point of doing so? Grover Cleveland Double Entry

It was indeed because his two terms were not consecutive. I have changed the formatting so that Cleveland's 2 terms are in the same table row when sorted. Drdpw (talk) 00:22, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
