Talk:List of people with ovarian cancer

Latest comment: 6 years ago by InternetArchiveBot in topic External links modified (January 2018)

Name edit

I don't know who revised the existing list and renamed it as the "List of notable women who have survived ovarian cancer" when the overwhelming majority on the list did not survive the disease. I moved it for that reason to "List of notable women who have battled ovarian cancer". Makes sense to me. Sesquipedalian 16:56, 26 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Moved to even simpler and less colloquial "list of women with ovarian cancer". The lead should spell out details of inclusion criteria. Zodon (talk) 20:37, 7 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Rename edit

Might this list be renamed "List of people with ovarian cancer"? It includes Robert Eads, who was male-identified. Graymornings(talk) 17:25, 8 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Just notable women? Not just all women is it? edit

Hello,

Seems like the title is misleading. I can't list the people I know, can I? Does it just need an obituary citation mentioning cause of death to make the list?Parabolooidal (talk) 19:37, 10 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

I tried to change it to "Notable women with ovarian cancer" but that violates WP:MOS. So it has to be someone newsworthy, preferably with a Wikipedia article of her own; you can't just include anyone. Quis separabit? 20:14, 11 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

NOTABILITY REQUIREMENTS edit

As per WP rules on "stand alone lists": Notability guidelines apply to the inclusion of stand-alone lists and tables. Notability of lists (whether titled as "List of Xs" or "Xs") is based on the group. One accepted reason why a list topic is considered notable is if it has been discussed as a group or set by independent reliable sources, per the above guidelines; notable list topics are appropriate for a stand-alone list. The entirety of the list does not need to be documented in sources for notability, only that the grouping or set in general has been. Because the group or set is notable, the individual items in the list do not need to be independently notable, although editors may, at their discretion, choose to limit large lists by only including entries for independently notable items or those with Wikipedia articles.

There is no present consensus for how to assess the notability of more complex and cross-categorization lists (such as "Lists of X of Y") or what other criteria may justify the notability of stand-alone lists, although non-encyclopedic cross-categorizations are touched upon in Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not. Lists that fulfill recognized informational, navigation, or development purposes often are kept regardless of any demonstrated notability. Editors are still urged to demonstrate list notability via the grouping itself before creating stand-alone lists.

There does not appear to be a requirement, unless I am overlooking something, for two separate references as has been averred by another editor, to qualify to be on the this list. If there are entries deemed non-notable which editors believe should be removed then I guess deletion by individual with explanation may be the best way to handle that. Silly histogram? edit

Why is the histogram by age of death silly? —EncMstr (talk) 22:22, 3 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
