USSR "Forgotten Offensives" edit

These are summarized in an address given by Glantz titled: "The Soviet-German War 1941-1945: Myths and Realities: A Survey Essay" presented as the 20th anniversary distinguished lecture at the Strom Thurmond Institute of Government and Public Affairs Clemson University October 11, 2001. Added Operation Dietrich and Ring from Beevor's "Stalingrad". Beevor is a somewhat dubious source and the 2 are uncited in his text.
Does this mean that the Red Army operations are not to be listed in Wikipedia because David Glantz has published on them?!--Mrg3105 (talk) 05:54, 22 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Allies?! edit

"British plans to attack, invade and wage war against the USSR." With allies like that :). I think that this can't be listed as allies before the fact of alliance between UK and USSR.--Mrg3105 (talk) 11:22, 22 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Revert edit

I've just moved this article back from List of Axis military operations on the Eastern Front of World War II and reverted the removal of Soviet military operations. These significant changes were not discussed. Nick-D (talk) 08:54, 24 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

...and I quote the template...This article does not cite any references or sources. Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources. Unverifiable material may be challenged and removed. (August 2008)
So you find me a source that will say the Red Army had an Eastern Front that applied to the majority of the operations listed here...
But....I have a life, and have no desire to talk to you...so the misleading list will remain :) Give yourself a star--Shattered Wikiglass (talk) 09:02, 24 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
There appear to be two issues. 1) A suggestion that this list should be fully cited. This is a list with links to full articles - IMO, it's these that need citations. 2) No one is suggesting that the Red Army had an "Eastern Front" - it's a question of viewpoint. This is the English language Wiki, however, and English speakers are most likely to view the war on Germany as having an Eastern Front between Germany and the USSR. It's a commonly used term that encompasses activity by both sides. The Great Patriotic War (a common USSR term) is largely unknown and unused by English speakers. BTW, large scale deletions, as opposed to splits that just re-present info, should be discussed as a matter of courtesy. Folks at 137 (talk) 23:11, 24 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Proposed merger edit

The list, List of Axis named operations in the European Theatre, was created in late 2008. It substantially covers the same ground as the List of World War II military operations (and its subsidiaries) although there are omissions in both. A merger is desirable to avoid duplication of effort and to maintain a single reference source. The "List of World War II military operations" family is the more established of the two (created 2006 as a result of reorganisation of a yet older list), more complete, more organised and should be the single source. Timeline edit

The list of offensives should really be organized by timeline for ease of use. CessnaMan1989 (talk) 23:52, 14 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
