Georgetown Uni edit

Removed Georgetown University from the list - Georgetown is the name of the area in Washington, DC where the university was first established. The town was first settled in the late 17th century, and incorporated into a township in 1751; it was named after the British monarchs. Similarly, the university was founded during the first year of George Washington's Presidential term, 1789, long before he established the legacy which would lead to his veneration.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.112.163.191 (talk) 06:26, 20 June 2005

GW Parkway edit

Would it make sense to add The George Washington Memorial Parkway to the list of places, or to a new streets category? I think the GW Parkway should be on this list in some capacity, but I'm sure that'd open the door to a lot of streets to be added (many of which are not so noteworthy).

For now, I'm adding it to the list of places.— Preceding unsigned comment added by DividedByNegativeZero (talkcontribs) 02:44, 5 December 2005

Named after edit

Normal English is 'named after'. I do not think 'named for' is correct in either US or UK English. Should the article be moved? Martin Hogbin (talk) 10:19, 19 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Recent move... edit

@Orser67: Ummm...this thing is kind of huge now. Do we really have to have ALL this info in one article?...with this move the page size is now:
File size: 252 kB Prose size (including all HTML code): 1135 B References (including all HTML code): 0 B Wiki text: 48 kB Prose size (text only): 603 B (97 words) "readable prose size" Plus the necessary in-WIki attribution has been lost... Shearonink (talk) 23:18, 1 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

FYI - Talk:List of monuments dedicated to George Washington was stranded in this page-move. Shearonink (talk) 23:19, 1 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
You can do undo it if you want, I'm not going to get into an edit war or anything over it. But I think it makes sense to have everything named after him on one page. Orser67 (talk) 23:21, 1 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
I don't like edit wars very much myself. I'll post a notice over on Talk:George Washington etc to get some other eyes on this, y'know...maybe it's just me. Part of the problem is that it looks like the various in-wiki attributions haven't been delineated, etc. Shearonink (talk) 01:04, 2 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Sounds reasonable to me. If other editors prefer the way it was before, I won't complain. My goal in the long-term is to have a "memorials" or "list of things named after" page for each president, or at least a section in their bio, but upon thinking about it, my plan wouldn't really be affected greatly if memorials to Washington were spread across a couple pages. Statues edit

Given the length of this list, I've created List of statues of George Washington and propose moving mention of statues over appropriately. ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:07, 23 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
