Iraq edit

The user @Abou hmed: have at first deleted a fully referenced entry (see View history 11:31, 28 June 2020‎) without providing any supporting reference, and have been rollbacked by me (see View history 16:53, 28 June 2020‎). Then the same user puzzingly added a more detailed entry for the same two battalions that he previously deleted (see View history 23:05, 28 June 2020‎ and View history 00:03, 29 June 2020‎), but providing a *fake* reference. The quoted page 317 of the 2017 edition of the IISS's Military Balance is entirely different, as follows:

  • Marines (1000)
    • Forces by Role
      • Manouver
        • Amphibious
          • 2 mne bn

That is, exactly the data present in the previous version of the page. By the way, the same entry is repated in the IISS's Military Balance 2018 edition (page. 338). So either user Abou hmed have made a simple mistake (and in that case no problem, error happens, please enter again the data providing full and detailed supporting references), or the entry is an intentional fake (and in that case it could be classed as a serious case of vandalism). I would be delighted is user Abou hmed could explain exactly what happened. All the best --Arturolorioli (talk) 10:14, 29 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

"Universitary" edit

@Arturolorioli: "Universitary" cannot be the English translation of anything, because it is not an English word at all. Compare this list of dictionary definitions of 'university' with this empty list of dictionaries that define 'universitary'. -- John of Reading (talk) 09:49, 7 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Dear @John of Reading:, while I'm not a native english speaker, as far as I know "universitary" *does* exist in your language as the basic adjective of "University" (see https://www.lexico.com/definition/universitary). That said, no problem at all, I'm absolutely sure that your grasp of your own language is far better than mine, and possibly better than the dictionary I quoted too, so if you are totaly sure that this adjective does not exist, please feel free to replace it with the correct adjective. Maybe "Academic", that should be even more litteral, if a bit arcaic for most WP users? All the best --Arturolorioli (talk) 10:17, 7 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
    • You are quite right, "Academic Legion" is a better translation of the Polish name. -- John of Reading (talk) 10:25, 7 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

France and Poland edit

Poland's 7th Coastal Defence Brigade isn't a marine unit. The "Coastal" is just an honor title. Same goes for all of France's Troupes the Marine, whose previous name was "Troupes Coloniales". Today none of them are marine units. They were transferred from the Navy to the Army on 7 July 1900, and in 1983 the last regiment gave up the amphibious training. Today's troupes the Marine are not equipped for amphibious operations and are not trained for it. The Fusiliers marins are France's amphibious force... and the Commandos Marine are missing from the French Navy listing. noclador (talk) 00:48, 10 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

and the photo in the France section "French Fusiliers Marins undergoing desert training in Djibouti" - this is NOT Fusiliers Marins, it's a Troupes de Marine NCO, and the the soldiers doing the training are Americans! noclador (talk) 00:52, 10 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Missing Information on French Marines? edit

If my research is correct, I believe that the French Army's 9th Marine Infantry Brigade also counts as a marine force, and it's not listed on here. I'm not 100% sure, but if I am correct or wrong, please let me know. Faith15 15:25, 4 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Suggest renaming this article edit

The current name of this article List of marines and naval infantry forces includes unnecessary duplication. Marines and naval infantry mean the same. One of those terms could be removed and replaced. Considering that the article includes army units with the amphibious warfare role and navy units that are not marines, the title of the article could become List of marine forces and similar units. Other suggestions for the title would be welcome. Dreddmoto (talk) 14:59, 13 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Another possible title could be List of marines and similar forces. --Dreddmoto (talk) 03:13, 26 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
