Singapore edit

The island of Singapore has always been a prominent spot in South East Asian geography, the first records of settlement being an outpost of a javanese empire in the 14th century. Its population waxed and waned a few times, but by the 16th century, it was actually known by the Sultanate of Johore, the people who "owned it", as the island of Singapore. Then Raffles played a dirty trick and got control of the island. The point being is that the idea of Singapore not existing in the 17th century is not an alien one. It would certainly be viable.

Jack, the undead monkey edit

"Jack shoots the caged monkey with his pistol and cheerily says, "Look! An undead monkey--top that!" However, no mention of this is made in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. "

In the Maelstrom battle, Pintel and Ragetti shoot Jack in a cannon, from the Black Pearl, across the abyss, and into the Flying Dutchman. Jack, screaming and burning, hits the undead crewman Will was battling, to which he says: "Thank you, Jack". After the Battle is over, when Cap. Jack is taking Elizabeth away in an algae parachute, we see Jack taking a rope and flying off with them. Tanketai 05:11, 12 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

La Isla y los que no conocem español edit

Who ever wrote the bit about Isla de Muerta does not know their spainish very well. The meaning is simply "Island of the dead" or "Dead island" the only reason Muerta is feminine is because the world Isla is feminine, it's just agreeing with the word isla.

Actually, "Island of the Dead" would be "Isla de los Muertos", and "Dead Island" would come out as "Isla Muerta". "Isla de Muerta" sounds really like a mistake: probably, whomever wrote the script didntt know their spanish very well. Tanketai 05:11, 12 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
One other possible name would be "Isla de la Muerta", Island of the Dead [Woman]. Muerta in this sentence would be relating to a woman, in a kind of sentence that has no paralel in the English language, as english doesn't have gendered adjectives. Tanketai 02:44, 18 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

The Five Deaths edit

I'm not entirely familiar with the films, but I am familiar with Jurassic Park. I've changed the Isla de Muerta" description (which maybe was changed because of copy right? from JP?) to say that Isla Sorna is only the same in namesake and that no such islands exist.

But again, being unfamiliar with the story and the film, does the island really belong to a chain of 5 islands like those from JP? If so, then leave the information, but if not, then it should be removed as it isn't relevant. I'll leave this up to you all.--72.188.61.226 06:24, 28 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

NO, Isla Muerta from jp and Isla de Muerta from potc are NOT the same thing. its simple as that. im not trying to sound rude Brontoraptor02 05:05, 14 September 2007 (UTC) (UTC)Reply

None of the islands from Jurassic Park were named Isla de Muerta. The islands were Isla Nublar and Isla Soma. None of the islands in Jurassic Park are related to any islands in Pirates of the Caribbean. SOhio142 03:23, 14 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Crabs edit

The Locker holds many strange creatures such as the crabs that aided Jack in returning the Pearl back into the endless sea. Though some believe that the crabs were sent to help Jack by Calypso/Tia Dalma. It's pretty obvious Calypso sent the crabs. Several are seen going underneath her skirt and she's even holding one in her hand. And at the end when she's released from her Tia Dalma form she turns into crabs. I think this is pretty obvious. Jupiterzguy

Yeah, I'm the one who entered that about the crabs. I know that she contacted them upon arriving in the locker herself. Because, they didn't come until; after the crew had crashed into the Locker. I don't know who, but someone took it out a while back, but I reentered it. So thanks for posting the obvious, j/k

  • I didn't completely take out everything. Use facts when writing. Don't use words like, "some believe" without support/reference. Avoid using "weasel words". Davtra 05:10, 10 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • My bad yall, but hay, isn't it true, don't u believe she sent them. Well possibly not everyone does so that's why I thought it would be okay to use "some believe". I know now, thanks!
  • ManofSTEEL2772
  • No problem. It is tricky when writing an encyclopedic article. Encyclopedia articles must contain accurate facts. - Davtra 02:30, 11 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Yeah, but a lot of what is really happening in the movie is inferred. It's obvious that this is fact, just consult the movie. Simply because the writers didn't confirm the answer to the question doesn't mean it isn't fact. Its quite obvious what is going on, therefore it should be in the article. And maybe not stated as fact, but at least, for the purpose of being truly comprehensive, it should mention it as being a theory.
  • Yes, that is true, but it needs to be backed up. The crabs section was deleted because weasel words were used, and no back up. Davtra 10:38, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Name of the Locker edit

Technically, it should be named, or atleast cited in the article that the locker might have undergone a name change since Jones is dead and Will is now the captain of the dutchman. Thus the Locker would be named "Will Turner's Locker."

  • Doubt it. The Locker probaly collapsed when Jones died, because Calypso created the Locker for Jones. Seeing how he is dead The locker is probaly gone. Unless its still there, just not being used.
  • I wouldn't change it. There's not enough information about Will Turner. Even if there was information, I would probably add a new section in the article. Although Davy Jones is dead, keep the section for "historical" reading - Davtra 02:57, 11 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • As I said below, I believe the name is a misnomer anyway. Davy Jones' position gave him access to hell, or the Locker, and since he sent people there, it began to be called "Davy Jones' Locker." If anything, now its just "The Locker."

Locker imprisoment edit

I put that Calypso could be trapped within the Locker if she ever was sent there. But now that I think of it, could she. I mean she is the Goddess of the Sea. But also the Locker really isn't the sea, its Hell. I just don't think so, so could somone else post their ideas here? Thanks! ManofSTEEL2772 June 14 9:19 p.m.

  • You put in Calypso could be trapped? It's either Calypso will be trapped or she can't be trapped if she was sent to the Locker. - Davtra 03:37, 15 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Okay then, sorry, well then will she or can't she be trapped if sent? ManofSTEEL2772
  • If we can't find an answer (from a reliable source), then we shouldn't include it in the article. I have no idea, so we'll have to leave it out...for now. Davtra 00:42, 16 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • If the Locker cancels out supernautral powers, like that of the sea, then Calypso could be trapped if sent their. ManofSTEEL2772
  • But it appears quite obvious that she must've created the Locker, or at least bequeathed it to Davy Jones, since he had no power before appointed by Calypso. Either that, or the term "Davy Jones' Locker" is a misnomer, since the only affiliation he has with it is that he sends souls there who refuse service or who have crossed him (courtesy of the Kraken). It could be the latter, since as ferrier of lost souls he would have access to the afterlife. Maybe the Locker is actually Hell. (In POTC 1 Jack Sparrow says "The deepest circle of Davy Jones' Locker is reserved for Mutineers and Betrayers" (This occurs when he is sitting in prison. In The Pirate's Code, (Joshamee's interpretation of the code(published by disney under his name)) he says "The deepest circle of hell is reserved for Mutineers and Betrayers." So they could be equivalent.
  • Okay, so doe that mean that she could possibly escape it or destroy it? That was my original question. ManofSTEEL2772
  • Can you back up why Calypso could be trapped? If you can, add it into the article. Davtra 02:29, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Well, if she could escape, that might explain why the pirates bound her in mortal form instead of killing her or sending her to the locker (if the locker really is a form of hell). To be fairly honest, I don't believe she created the locker. I think that the only relation she has to the locker is that, being the sea goddess, she is in charge of making sure the souls of those who have died at sea find their way to the afterlife. Just as Poseidon, if not Zeus, gave her that duty in the first place, she passed it on to a mortal, her lover Davy Jones. Being that the afterlife is composed of (at least) the Fiddler's Green (heaven) and Davy Jones' Locker (hell?), Davy Jones was known for sending lost souls there (though the Locker's name was misleading, since it wasn't created or even owned by Davy Jones. Now, being as it is a prison, of sorts, for the souls of the damned, it makes sense to be called "The Locker." When Jones stopped ferrying souls, and began using the gateway to the afterlife as a promise of punishment, sailors came away from his ship after making bargains, telling tales of "Davy Jones' Locker." See how the ownership of the Locker was falsely attributed to Jones?
  • I say all that, to say this: Calypso doesnt own the Locker, and never did. If she was stuck in mortal form before being sent to the Locker, she probably would remain trapped.

Minor Locations edit

In the minor locations section, it says that the merchant ship ran aground at the Run Aground Archipelago. But in that scene, there are many hints and clues pointing toward that the kraken was involved, such as when will says "it's no use, you've run aground" and the man answers "no, beneath us. foul breath" and also the man who falls onto the deck and is revealed his face is missing, which shows the kraken must have been involved because mr gibbs said the kraken had suction cups strong enough to suck a man's face clean off. Kingdom Hearts II edit

In June someone added the below information and since I do not remember Donald or Mickey's cameo in the film I am removing the sentence.

"Later, the pirates (with the help of Pete and the Heartless) tie up Jack, Sora, Donald, Goofy, and Elizabeth in the Interceptor's deck and set off gunpowder all over the ship. " ZouBEini 02:15, 12 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

My mistake--this relates to the game, about which I know nothing. No action taken. Cheers! ZouBEini 02:19, 12 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why doesn't Port Royal warrant its own section in this complete list of locations? Also, I am confused by the Kingdom Hearts II game section, which keeps referring to Port Royal, but describes actions that (in the movie) take place at Isla de Muerta. 70.20.211.100 (talk) 18:06, 24 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I wanted to know the exact same thing. After a bit of casual Googling, I discovered that this article is one of only around 3 pages on the internet that mentions the word, and I couldn't find it in any of the dictionaries I tried looking for it in (including colloquial ones). I think some clarification in the article may be good, and I'll take a look at that scene in the film to try and figure out what it is referencing. drewmunn (talk) 11:08, 8 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
