Talk:List of lighting designers

Concern edit

I'm concerned about this page. In the last month, all sorts of names have been added to it, and we have almost no way of knowing who of those names is a "bona-fide" notable designer, and who is just adding themselves for vanity purposes. Anyone got any thoughts on this issue? Bryson430 17:08, 15 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Notable entry discussion edit

I'm interested to know who 'Delicious carbuncle' thinks is a 'Notable' Lighting Designer? Deleting names such as: Hugh Vanstone - 3 Time Olivier Award Winning Lighting Designer, Paule Constable - Another UK Olivier Award winning Lighting Designer, Howard Harrison - Possibly the most succesful and hence wealthiest UK lighting designer of this time.

Who on Earth is deciding who is notable or not? To delete the above 3 names is just plain ignorance.

Delicious Carbuncle? Who is SHE? Who does SHE think SHE is? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.151.248.39 (talkcontribs)

I've restored the comment you deleted, and started a new section to address your concerns. I removed only red linked entries from the list. My changes were reversed by User:OZLIGHT, whose article on himself (David L. Sadler nn lighting designer) was speedily deleted. Then you removed a select few from the list. I will now revert both of those changes. I hope I've answered your question fully. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 19:24, 4 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Again, who on Earth do you think you are to decide who is or is not a Noteable UK Lighting Designer? You are deleting the names of several very highly respected, well known and talented lighting designers. Why? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.151.248.39 (talkcontribs)
Please read WP:NOTABILITY. If they are not in WP, they do not belong on a list. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 20:11, 4 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Again, you have deleted the names of 3 highly noteable UK lighting designers. All Olivier Award winners for Lighting Design (The most prestigious/Noteable Award in the UK available for Lighting Design)
Yes, the names you have left do have WP articles attributed to them however...
  • Patrick Woodroffe - Yes a highly noteable lighting designer
  • WP Article - On the illustrator who shares his name.
  • James Whiteside - Again a highly noteable lighting designer
  • WP Article - Irish Politician and Judge
  • David Holmes - Again a highly noteable lighting designer
  • WP Articles:
  • David Holmes (businessman), former Chairman of Rangers F.C.
  • David Holmes (politician) (1769–1832)
  • David Holmes (musician) (born 1969), Northern Ireland
  • David Holmes (sportscaster) (born c. 1983)
  • David Holmes (actor), Harry Potter movies
  • Dave Holmes, former MTV VJ
  • David L. Holmes, American academic
Once again all completely irrelevant.
Each name I add to the list is that of a well known UK Lighting Designer, and yet you continue to delete them and accuse me of vandalism. Why? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.146.213.170 (talkcontribs)
Let's see, how did those get in there? Oh look - you, or someone with an IP address from the same range, added them. Thanks, I'll clean them up for you. I've already answered your question, so please read what I have written more closely. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 21:42, 4 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
So.. There are only 2 ‘Noteable’ Lighting Designers left in the whole of the UK?
How Very Sad!
If you look again you’ll see I also added Andrew Bridge (2 Time Tony Award Winner for Best Lighting Design)
Another Name I added and you deleted has won the Tony Award for best Lighting Design (Rick Fisher)
Several of the names I added and you deleted have been nominated for Tony Awards for best lighting design over the years. (Including: Hugh Vanstone, Paule Constable and Howard Harrison)
Several of The Names I added and you deleted have won the UK’s highly prestigious Lawrence Olivier Award for Best Lighting Design.
Yet you accuse me of Vandalism? You block me from editing?
How Very Very SAD!
What on Earth is the point of this Encyclopedia if it is run by people like you? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.158.135.124 (talkcontribs)
I'm sure there are many notable lighting designers in the UK, but there seem to be only two listed in WP. Perhaps if you took some time to understand how WP works (start here), you would be less inclined to rant. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 23:15, 4 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

This is quite funny. Credentials wise: I'm a Royal Academy of Dramatic Art trained techy with a London Theatre work history. Who are the names I see on the credits of everything big?.. yet he's not here? Patrick Woodroffe! Rick Fisher also. I haven't heard of most of these other names! I think, Delicious Carbuncle, that your conversational adversary has good points! Maybe stop being such a LD monotheist!? Mark76uk (talk) 02:09, 3 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
