Killings occurring outside the US

I noticed on the entry for the killing of Juan Pablo Perez Santillan on July 7 that it occurred in Mexico, or at least his death did, as he was shot from across the Rio Grande. I was just thinking that we hadn't really discussed (to my knowledge) killings by US police officers that occur in other countries. While I know this case is pretty rare (being shot from across a border) I thought it would be worth discussing the issue. If we do not want to include killings by police that occur in other countries, maybe we could adjust the location of the entry for Santillan to also list the US city from which the shot was fired. I think we should leave it in. First of all, the title of the list is ambiguous in the sense that it doesn't distinguish between killings in the US and the LEOs doing the killing being in the US. Ordinarily I would think that we should disambiguate the title, but I don't think it's worth worrying about it right now. This is an anomalous situation and the officers doing the killing were in the US.— alf laylah wa laylah (talk) 22:20, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

I had posted the entry (and two or three others like it). I had decided that it qualified because the title states "law enforcement officers in the United States" which was true of the LEO. I believe it technically meets the criteria and it certainly meets the intention of the list (people killed by US LEOs). Regarding killings by LEOs in other countries: that would be a separate list. We're having trouble documenting even half of the killings in the US, so I am not inclinded to add on another list at this point.--LUOF (talk) 03:13, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Place Name Links

How do folks feel about the place name links that were added to this article a few weeks ago? I'm not sure I care one way or the other, but I dislike the inconsistency of only having them in the July 2012 article (that I've seen thus far). I'm not concerned about the place links either way. I am glad to see that you've made some contributions recently. I have been too busy, again, to make any contributions for the past several months. The inconsistency of contributions is a bigger concern to me. The difference in killings listed between January and April is stark. This is too big a project for just a few people to keep on top of. From the beginning I was hoping that there would form a much bigger set of regular contributors. I'm wondering how more contributors might be recruited. --LUOF (talk) 12:54, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Agreed; contributions are certainly a bigger concern. I had been busy with school over the last few months, but am hoping to try and play catch-up now. That can be tricky because it's obviously much easier to find recent news, but I'll do my best. More contributors are definitely needed. One person can't keep up with (what should average around) three entries a day--that's almost 100 per month, and I can hardly do it every single day, so of course it piles up...
