ぼう-bō "Stick," shurely?

The meaning given is "line," but ぼう-bō is certainly the stick one throws to a dog in the many many damn books where one has to throw a stick for a dog. DavidLJ (talk) 13:58, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

The radical 丨 ぼう is listed as a "line" in Kangxi radicals as well which is where the main table came from, but if there was a radical 棒 ぼう then it would be a stick (or a pole or a rod). I imagine, though, that whoever originally called it a vertical "line" was just describing what it looked like, so surely calling it a rod or a stick does the same thing with the added bonus of a relevant reading. A quick Google seems to come up with "line," but my vote's for it to be stick like you said. Uno b4 (talk) 06:38, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

Is this a radical?

Is 勿 a radical? i can't find it on this table but according to http://jisho.org/kanji/radicals/ its is.Lucia Black (talk) 07:43, 22 February 2014 (UTC)

The table you linked isn't strictly speaking a table of radicals. It is a slightly broader finding tool - to identify kanji by their component parts, which can include more than one radical. In the case of 勿 there are already several parts included to "build" the character. If you click on that kanji in the table and then again at the bottom of the table you will be taken to an explanation page where among other things the incorporated radicals and parts are shown. In this case http://jisho.org/kanji/details/勿 where details are given as follows: Radical: 勹 (KanXi: 20) Parts: ノ勹勿.

Jouyou Frequency Column

The jouyou frequency as listed does not accurately reflect frequencies when the list of jōyō kanji is ordered by radical. For instance, 一 is here within listed as having a jouyou frequency of 50; whereas the ordered list of jōyō kanji provides a count of only 12. Abclemons (talk) 16:09, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
