Scotland?

Why are England and Scotland both included in this list? Admittedly, a lot of people have crossed the border, but this mixes statistics of two entirely separate football league systems without a real reason. —WFC— 05:16, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

We had a discussion about this at WP:FOOTBALL, back when the article was first started. Partly, yes, because there has been an awful lot of crossover, and partly because most of the sources available include both English & Scottish league records. GiantSnowman 10:31, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Goals per game??

Shouldnt there be a column showing goals per game so that people can see who scored most in that way too? Like Brian Clough who scored 270 goals in 290 games or something like that - that was and still is a phenomenal scoring rate! It should be included. 90.17.24.134 (talk) 22:53, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

Split discussion

I propose that this article should be split into separate articles- 1 for England, 1 for Scotland. They are completely different league systems, and so no reason why they should be together in 1 article. Proposed new articles would be List of footballers in England by number of league goals and List of footballers in Scotland by number of league goals, to keep naming consistency with this article. I agree. No reason to combine the two into one article. I'm pretty sure we don't have any other articles which mash stats/records from two different countries/League systems together -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 20:19, 21 September 2017 (UTC)

• Support split. As a combined list I see it as a list for list sake. Illogical. Listcruft. It is meaningless; next someone will want a list of top goal scorers in bundesliga and/or serie-a. Also, although it doesn't appear to specifically exclude current players anywhere, the opening para says This includes the appearances and goals of former player which apparently means to restrict it to former players, looking at revision history. This also doesn't seem logical. I see no sense in a list of top goal scorers that doesn't include the top goal scorers simply because they haven't hung up their boots yet. And if it stays for former players only it should be renamed to reflect that for accuracy and prevent periodic innocent passers by from being reverted and accused of vandalism. • Neutral, the original reason as to why there was a single list for England and Scotland, as opposed to two separate lists, was due to the amount of crossover between the leagues. If the 200 goals minimum is carried across into two separate articles, it may be the case that there wouldn't be enough content to warrant the two articles in the first place (I haven't checked this, however) - especially as some players will only meet the 200 goals figure as a result of their goals in both England and Scotland (not doing so in either individually). That being said, having separate articles for separate league systems does make sense and the limit could be reduced to 150 (for example) should size become an issue. Missing players - Micky Quinn, Jimmy Quinn, Scott McGleish, Frank Large, Jordan Rhodes

Hi All

I've found five players missing from this list - Micky Quinn 230, Jimmy Quinn 210, Scott McGleish 208, Frank Large 208 and Jordan Rhodes 202 (Rhodes is active). I can also see that David Jack's figure needs correcting - it includes 7 goals scored for Plymouth Argyle in 1919/20 when they were still in the Southern League so correct overall tally should be 260 not 267
