The film Paper Moon (1973) was not shot in Colusa County. Scenes for the short lived 1974-75 TV series version starring Jodie Foster were, but not the earlier film version that's linked (which was mostly filmed in Kansas and other Midwest states). People in Grimes, California in Colusa County still remember a filming day in which Jodie Foster was ill and a local boy, David Weare, was used as a stand in filming scenes from a distance.

For To Kill a Mockingbird, the only scene that was shot in Colusa County was the kids walking along the side of the courthouse, which is a bit strange because the Colusa county courthouse building they walk along is a white painted building that does not match the courthouse used in the rest of the film, and the generic looking scene could have been filmed anywhere (such as in Los Angeles), as there is no establishing shot of the Colusa County Courthouse location that was used.

The best representation of Colusa County on film remains Tick, Tick, Tick, which used the towns of Colusa, Grimes, and Meridian primarily. The life sized 3D cow on the side of the grocery store building in Meridian, California is still there to this day (2024), even though other features of the building have been removed and simplified since filming took place.

In addition to the films on this list there was also a television movie about John Dillinger that was shot in Grimes, California, but I don't recall the name of it. The house that was used is called the Westphal house and my family by marriage owns it. It was a derelict house at the time dressed up for the film and when they were done there were holes in the walls from charges meant to resemble bullet hits and so on, and after filming the house went back into disuse and has deteriorated even more over the years, but still stands. 64.57.107.213 (talk) 14:15, 11 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
