Anyone watching this art - hope you agree with cape leeuwin - it is very obvious on the map - and shows up on most maps of australia of large scale as the 'referent point' - up to some one else to pursue the points of the compass that exist outside the 4 main cardinal points  :) User:SatuSuro 13:29, 29 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
It also has a sign there saying intersection of the Southern And Indian Oceans Gnangarra 13:43, 29 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Also another table underneath with the highest and lowest places in the states as well? User:SatuSuro 13:52, 29 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Country

edit

The external territories like Heard and McDonald Islands and Norfolk Island are Australian possessions, but not parts of the country, and should therefore not be included in the paragraph "Australia (country, including islands)" to determine the extreme points. This is as if Pitcairn Islands and Anguilla were included to determine the extreme points of the United Kingdom.--Ratzer (talk) 08:23, 20 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Extreme points of Northern Territory

edit

The northernmost point of the Northern Territory is given as Murri Point, on Oxley Island. There is another island more northernly still, looks about 100+ hectares in size, as visible on satellite views, at 10.908°S, 133.033°E, whose name I cannot discover, and which is clearly part of the Northern Territory. Anyone know its name, to modify the table? Ptilinopus (talk) 13:23, 1 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

"Within reasonable proximity..."?

edit

"The westernmost island within reasonable proximity of the mainland is Dirk Hartog Island..." I am inclined to cut this, but have to ask first: how many km would be "unreasonable"? :-) Grant | Talk 06:57, 14 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

separating mainland points from island points

edit
  • 4 Extreme points of Australian states (including islands)

there should be 4 (a) not including islands (ie mainland points)

Should this list be amended to include the southernmost point of Tasmania? Although an island, it is still a state of, and an integral part of Australia as opposed to merely an island, or territory tacked onto Australia as well. If I were asked to point to the southernmost point of "Australia" as in the country (as opposed to the island/continent of Australia) on a map, I'd point to the southernmost point of Tasmania, not Wilson's Promontory. 124.168.13.236 (talk) 20:19, 2 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Sub-Antarctic Island

edit

Are not these islands the southernmost points of the Commonwealth of Australia? JulianL (talk) 13:33, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
