Renaming (2008) edit

On the 6th of November, this article was nominated for deletion. The consensus was keep so I closed the discussion. However, a suggestion was made to move/rename the article to "List of extreme points". (no caps) I'd like some opinions about this before I go BOLD and change it. --Ron Ritzman (talk) 00:47, 11 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I feel stupid. It was already moved :) --Ron Ritzman (talk) 00:49, 11 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Rename? (2011) edit

The name of this article is awfully redundant... in the past this was called List of extreme points and Lists of extreme points. Both sound better than this. Anyone else up for a rename? ThemFromSpace 01:01, 29 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

No consensus to move. Vegaswikian (talk) 05:13, 5 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • List of extreme points listsList of extreme points – Proposing move to reduce redundancy. This is the standard name for a "list of lists" type disambiguation page and it sounds much better than the current title. Since the move is complex and needs an admin to handle I can't go ahead and do it BRD style. Listing this requested move as controversial because the page was moved away from my suggested title in the past. ThemFromSpace 01:21, 29 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. It is a list of lists, not directly a list of information. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:54, 29 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps you misread me? The reason I proposed to move this is because no other list of lists contains the redundancy. Look at Category:Lists of lists to see what I mean. ThemFromSpace 13:19, 29 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
I disagree. Take a look at one of my favourite articles, List of lists of lists. Also, type "List of lists" into the search bar and you will see a bunch of articles that start like that. Jenks24 (talk) 07:55, 4 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Requested move 2013 edit

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Move. There is clear consensus to move away from the current title, and the proposed one has the best support. Cúchullain t/c 17:00, 11 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

List of extreme point listsLists of extreme points – The article formerly had this title, and the move to the present title was done without prior discussion. The awkward grammar of the present title, in which the phrase "extreme point" acts as an adjective, makes it difficult to understand. A look at Category:Lists_of_lists and List of lists of lists shows that Lists of foo is customary whereas List of foo lists is not. —rybec 23:53, 31 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Because "List of Xs" asserts a listing of Xs? How can the logic be any more simple? --SmokeyJoe (talk) 22:25, 9 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
So you'd like to see all those other articles renamed, then? WP:CRITERIA also says articles should be concise. It's not that your proposal is wrong or misleading or anything—just that it doesn't fit as well with our naming criteria as the original proposal. --BDD (talk) 22:35, 9 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Maybe it is OK. I had missed an s. It is not a "List of Xs" but is "Lists of extreme points", so it is not strictly speaking inaccurate. I guess that this is a "Use the singular form" vs conciseness. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 00:12, 10 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per nom. Lists of extreme points is unambiguous; it signifies correctly that the topic of the article is a collection of lists on the subject of extreme points. "List of lists" or variations on that wording would be superfluous. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 18:51, 9 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. This seems quite clear and is consistent with the many other lists of lists pages. olderwiser 22:49, 9 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
