Groningen earthquake

Is the Groningen earthquake worth a mention due to the rarity of earthquakes in the Netherlands? Mjroots (talk) 17:06, 9 January 2018 (UTC)

It is not on USGS.--193.163.223.192 (talk) 04:11, 29 January 2018 (UTC)
Yes because of the reported damage. Wykx (talk) 21:36, 11 January 2018 (UTC)
Please put it in then. Alex of Canada (talk) 06:57, 22 January 2018 (UTC)
Where did it go? It had no reason to be removed. Alex of Canada (talk) 00:16, 8 April 2018 (UTC)
If it is not even on USGS, I get the feeling it is not noteworthy --193.163.223.192 (talk) 22:53, 28 May 2018 (UTC)
USGS actually misses some earthquakes fairly often. Alex of Canada (talk) 22:06, 29 July 2018 (UTC)

How do you get the exact number of earthquakes?

The page mentions the exact number of earthquakes, but how do you know? Alex of Canada (talk) 06:57, 22 January 2018 (UTC)

@Alex of Canada: We perform a search of the USGS earthquake catalog using this page. It is possible to search for earthquakes that occur within a certain date range and hence the exact number of earthquakes can be obtained.--My Chemistry romantic (talk) 07:24, 23 January 2018 (UTC)
Sorry for bothering you. I figured out shortly after and forgot to reply, thanks though! Alex of Canada (talk) 18:51, 23 January 2018 (UTC)

Magnitude 5.3 in California caused some damage

Apparently the earthquake did cause some damage, so it should be included on this list. https://weather.com/news/news/2018-04-05-earthquake-southern-california Alex of Canada (talk) 00:13, 8 April 2018 (UTC)

Earthquakes

We need to add the earthquakes in Colombia and Indonesia today guys. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.42.113.126 (talk) 22:07, 23 April 2018 (UTC)

5,3 3km from the nearest city ought to be noteworthy, even though it is quite deep (110 km)--193.163.223.192 (talk) 22:52, 28 May 2018 (UTC)

4,5 South Africa May 2018

USGS says 4,5.--193.163.223.192 (talk) 14:32, 7 May 2018 (UTC)

Please change it, sourcing USGS, and sourcing the news site for casualities?--193.163.223.192 (talk) 21:16, 8 May 2018 (UTC)

I get the feeling

that the Belgium earthquake was/is a rare 1--193.163.223.192 (talk) 22:46, 28 May 2018 (UTC)

Table in Compared to Other Years

I don't think those figures for the 4.0-4.9 range are right for most of the years. Did someone change them? Can someone fix? AlphaBetaGammaDeltaEpsilonZeta 06:59, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

Nvm I fixed them. AlphaBetaGammaDeltaEpsilonZeta 07:01, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
Maybe it can be set up to automatically update, if it is not already5.33.6.71 (talk) 20:05, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

Costa Rica EQ

I think there was more damage than Power Poles toppled--5.33.0.25 (talk) 04:29, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
What the Hell? The above looks weird, see? Someone explain, please--5.33.0.25 (talk) 04:31, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
I don't know if you're referring to the broken formatting, but I fixed it. Master of Time (talk) 04:33, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
Why did it happen? I believe, but am not sure, that I did not do it--5.33.0.25 (talk) 05:40, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
You accidentally left a space in front of your comment. That messes up the formatting. Master of Time (talk) 03:38, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

Addition of "plate/fault" section on earthquakes?

I think it would be usefully informative to mention what fault/plate boundary the earthquakes listed occur on. It could be interesting, helping discriminate apart the relatively common earthquakes from the numerous plates within the Philippines, and some of the more unusual ones like the one on the Easter microplate earlier this year. Possibly a compact format like Easter/Nazca ? exoplanetaryscience (talk) 00:26, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

To whom it may concern

Why did you (this stranger) remove the text ‘several,’ that I wrote in the number of injured people from the 7,3 Venezuelan earthquake? It says the same in the earthquake’s article, so why ?’--5.33.0.25 (talk) 21:51, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

Fiji earthquake request

Where is the article for this one? It was the biggest in 2018. ? Marjdabi (talk) 17:38, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

Nut necessarily biggest in 2018’--5.33.4.117 (talk) 18:07, 26 August 2018 (UTC)

Someone teach me...

How to properly add new noteworthy earthquakes? Can not seem to figure it out’ 62.242.41.180 (talk) 21:36, 4 November 2018 (UTC)

Just copy the format from previous listings and change the details to that of the earthquake you're adding, and add extra references if necessary. exoplanetaryscience (talk) 22:17, 4 November 2018 (UTC)

VII (Very strong) vs VIII (Severe)

Can somebody explain to me why both the Papua New Guinea and the Alaska earthquake are rated as #12 with a magnitude of twelve but the alaskan one is rated as VIII while the Papua New Guinea one only has a VII?
Minilexikon (talk) 05:41, 1 December 2018 (UTC)

Because they both have the same magnitude and that is a list of earthquakes sorted by magnitude. The intensity measures something different. Mikenorton (talk) 20:52, 7 December 2018 (UTC)
Okay, but what measures the intesity? Sorry, if my question sounds dump, but that was the subject of my confusion. Minilexikon (talk) 16:13, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
Seismic intensity measures the degree of shaking experienced at the ground surface. This directly relates to the amount of damage caused, depending on the quality of the buildings in the area affected. Mikenorton (talk) 16:16, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

May and June...

...both had 932 earthquakes between 4.0-4.9, that is funny stuff.--130.227.14.61 (talk) 10:50, 7 December 2018 (UTC)
