Talk:List of decommissioned United States Marine Corps aircraft squadrons

Untitled edit

Since this article was spun off of List of active United States Marine Corps aircraft squadrons, it shares some of the same info. Instead of simply deleting the duplicate info from one of the two, I was wondering if making a history of United States Marine Corps Aviation would be appropriate and notable enough for it's own page. I've created the United States Marine Corps Aviation article and moved the "history" section there. Bahamut0013 20:58, 7 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sourcing Issues edit

This article relies very heavily on sources that are self-published, by fans, enthusiasts, veterans, etc....A lot of them are now dead links as well. At the time this article was written, I'm guessing that Wikipedia wasn't nearly so particular about WP:RS and [{WP:SPS]] as it is now. I've removed many, but by no means all, of these improper sources. This article is going to need to be properly sourced to reliable sources published by reputable third party publishers, and not on these kinds of fan sites. I have not removed any of the text, thought there are no longer any references for much of it. Fladrif (talk) 19:18, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Marine Scouting Squadron 1 edit

Hello, I've accumulated enough stray bits of evidence that the Marine Corps floatplane unit at Sumay, Guam from 1921 to 1931 was Marine Scouting Squadron 1. See File:Scouting Squadron One, U.S. Marine Corps, Guam.jpg. I was going to drop a brief note in the Marine Scouting Squadrons section, but noticed that the unit designation format (e.g. VSM-3) is different from what I've seen at File:Curtiss HS-2L of Marine Scouting Squadron 1 (VS-1M) on Guam in May 1926 (Marine Corps Photo 530811).jpg. The VS-1M format is like that used in the Pre–World War II squadrons section (e.g. VS-15M). I have no idea if this is a substantive difference or a bureaucratic renaming sometime in the inter-war years. Does anyone here know? Thanks, Featous (talk) 15:56, 28 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
