Article needs cleanup edit

This article is a mess. The first sentence says this is about "famous people", yet what determines "famous"? Does dying in a motorcycle race makes one "famous"? And what about those who die in a race not listed here ... like those who may have died in county fair races or even the world super-bike series?

The lists are also not consistent. The Road accident section is ordered by last name, yet the date appears first. The other sections are ordered by date, which appears first (except for some that have no date).

I see that the result of the AfD discussion was "Keep". So be it ... let's make sure the article follows Wikipedia policy, both written and unwritten. "Keep" does not mean "Ok as is". This article needs work.

One glaring oversight: the death by motorcycle accident of Treat Williams.

This article needs some consistency and cleanup, in several areas:

  • What constitutes "famous" should be clearly stated so we know who gets listed here. There seem to be two categories in the article: people with Wikipedia articles who died in a motorcycle accident; and motorcycle racers who dies while racing in international motorcycle races. Let's state in the first paragraph exactly what this article covers.
  • Put all lists in the same order, by year or by name. Pick one.
  • Make sure the year is listed for all entries.
  • We need verifiable sources, in accordance with Wikipedia policy

If the article were cleaned up, it would be worthy of being part of Wikipedia. I am flagging it in hopes that the community can improve this article. Truthanado 20:50, 23 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I am thinking, would splitting this list up be a good idea as, that is what I am proposing with some of the lists, many of these road ones are already on the list of people who died in road accidents, so therefore they could be transferred there.
Motorcycle racing accidents - Some dates, first names, and nationalities were unavailable a year ago. There are a few lists of this type on the net, but would hope that if this was to be subsumed into road accidents, they would still be listed as motorcycle racing accidents. Dying in a motorcycle race does not make you famous. I assumed that only applied to the first list, but see that is poor. My own interest is only in the motorcycle racing accidents as listed on my user page, already incorporated here by someone else. Can racetrack accidents be considered the same as "road-accidents"? As for the other stuff, feel free to edit it. Seasalt 13:54, 1 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why not a category instead of a list? edit

What is the advantage of this being a list instead of using a category of motorcycle deaths? RJFJR (talk) 13:02, 21 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
