Sophia edit

There seems to be a wrong link, leading to some british rockband, while I suppose it should lead to the Sophia project by swedish Peter Bjärgö (Arcana etc.), which clearly is dark ambient. I never edited here, so no idea what to do. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.66.226.199 (talk) 10:05, 8 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Notability requirement for all entries edit

In order to comply with the Wikipedia requirements for verifiability, all entries on this list must have their notability evidenced by a Wikipedia article. All redlinked articles in this list will be periodically pruned. If you believe an artist should be included on this list, please create a properly verified article first before adding here. Thank you, Satori Son 03:52, 24 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • I have removed a small number of entries which have been on the list for over four months and still do not yet have an article. For the more recent redlinked entries, if anyone can write an article on them with proper sources, please do so. Thanks for you help,  Satori Son 04:05, 24 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Too bad. There are many nonentities here who just happen to have a Wikipedia article. This sort of self-referencing is one of the great weaknesses of Wikipedia. Also, many editors just go to town here while in the real world their lack of expertise equals the inability to smugly consider themselves an editor. When all is said and done, this list of dark, ambient artists is like most lists on Wikipedia, horrendously flawed and incomplete. Gingermint (talk) 01:04, 14 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Removing bands edit

I am removing bands with no article. If they were notable, they would have an article. If they are, they should be created; if not, should not be created or added. --Dane ~nya 05:29, 13 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. -- Satori Son 12:22, 2 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I removed a bunch of red links.Inhumer (talk) 01:33, 29 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

More red links cut. 24.131.238.118 (talk) 19:34, 10 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Did you do any research before you cut them or did you do it as thoughtlessly as most editors deal with information here? Gingermint (talk) 01:05, 14 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Dubious Categorisation edit

Many of the artists listed here can't really be categorised as "Dark Ambient". For example: Einsturzende Neubauten could hardly be described as an ambient artist by any stretch of the imagination... yes there are ambient elements to their work but this is far overridden by it's other aspects. Whilst searching for information on ambient music on the web, I am constantly inundated with artists who are "only just" ambient. It would be nice to see editors and compilers of information be much more selective... And perhaps this article is a good place for that change to start.

I 2nd that. I guess the problem is that most of the real Dark Ambient artists and groups do not meet the notability criteria http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_(music)#Criteria_for_musicians_and_ensembles so we end up having mostly bands that won't really be considered as 'Dark Ambient' --Birchhunter (talk) 23:51, 19 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

original research edit

an ip editor is inserting random acts that are unsourced as being dark ambient.

a cursory web search confirms: the added acts are not considered part of this genre by any reliable source.

an editors assertion isn't the same as a source. please refrain from editing without proper attribution. Saintstephen000 (talk)

checked the list again. these need to be sourced as dark ambient. a link pointing to discog where also there is no reference to dark ambient isnt sufficient to establish genre. these are original research additions. Saintstephen000 (talk)

checked this list again. repeated addition of misunderstood genre, original research. Saintstephen000 (talk)
