Alexa global page rank - useful?

edit

I question whether the Alexa global page rank column is useful. The implication here if I'm not mistaken, is that this is some kind of measure for comparing different ad networks, but I don't think this is true as it doesn't represent revenue or customers. Its principal value seems to be that it's easy to determine. In addition, ranking websites such as Google and Yahoo which do other things besides advertising based on their home-page statistics alone gives a skewed view, irrespective of their actual popularity as ad markets as well.

Can we get rid of this column, or replace it with something better? Maybe one of you biz-types can dig something out of Forbes or Fortune or an ad industry publication that actually ranks these companies based on something useful to a business person, which is probably more what we want to surface here. Agree - Alexa ranks are useless. Adwords is #1 because it is a sub-domain of Google. Other factors are in play too - a user may or may not use a service's actual website, thereby warping the Alexa rankings in favour of those that route adverts through their domain rather than those who don't. It is not a useful metric for comparison.
http://w3techs.com/technologies/history_overview/advertising/all gives a nice overview over networks and their marked share over time. I guess, their data is more useful than alexa.com-rankings. Also their list of advertising networks is also quite comprehensive. Regards --BS — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.56.106.15 (talk) 10:54, 10 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

What qualifies for this list

edit

I think somewhere along the line someone suggested that any network that has its own page (and has hopefully satisfied notability requirements) is eligible for membership of this list. This list is notoriously popular with self-promoting COI new editors who want to add their own network. Redlink = removed unless can prove notability (in which case it can sustain its own article).
