I moved the product list here as the page seemed like a list originally. Please help source the material in the list it should be removed until sourced correctly. Ottawa4ever (talk) 17:11, 6 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Adding new flavours = edit

I removed the sour mexico skittles; I think it would be a good idea to source any new flavours added to this page as there are still many that are questionable and needing sourcing. Also are package colours really necessasry? (if no one objects ill remove this in good time)Ottawa4ever (talk) 12:50, 11 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I removed refernces to the packaging coloring if there are objections to this im open to discussion. Also i think it would be interesting to source the dates these products were introduced as well as the dates these products were ceased(objections?), (for the time being if as skittles exec is observing, if you post these dates on my talk page ill implement them and take responsibility of verifying the dates if i can with some sources (may not be possible to do this)). I also think that describing the package is somewhat unencyclopedic (bag or box 55 g), post your concerns here if you think they are necessarcy, thanks a bunch, happy editing Ottawa4ever (talk) 00:03, 19 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I noticed Tart 'n' Tangy is missing. I remember these from my childhood. It was one of the first varieties available along with Wildberry and Tropical (which I believe were originally different from modern Tropical Skittles) .Justin The Claw (talk) 09:03, 7 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Merge edit

The main skittles article is so small thats its stupid to have this in a separate article. In fact, the main skittle article looks stub-like, i move that we merge these two articles. It's seems well sourced enough for it anyway IAmTheCoinMan (talk) 06:19, 20 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Skittles Inc is using this page in a weird way ... see http://www.skittles.com/products.htm . Im really afriad to do anything to this page while that is up. If the main Skittles page were appearing, it would probably cause them to dump the Wikipedia experiment. Soap Talk/Contributions 12:18, 20 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Note: apparently you have to click on one of the products now. This seems like a strange idea, since it redirects you from a more informative page to a less informative one, so perhaps they are in the process of getting rid of Wikipedia already. Obviously, it was no more than a publicity stunt to begin with. A week or so ago, Wikipedia was actually on the front page of the skittles.com website, but it has been pushed back a couple links deep now. Soap Talk/Contributions 14:27, 20 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Do you think a candy wrapper is a good source (Ive tried to hammer this out on the help page but Im still left qestioning??) The main skittles article is small now because people have trimmed the unenclyclopedic stuff out. There are a few things Ill mention here, the skittles home page technically only lists 5 products in existance (that being its little box), and alot of this information on this page (list page) seems to be irrelelvant at this time......Its a finicky question to ask (cause both sides are very obvious). Ive asked that the article be assessed but this hasnt been done yet so i would at least like to see the outcome of this before jumping to any decisions about merging or deletion. As Ive said before I question alot of these flavours and would like to see third party sources or better ones. I think there are a number of avenues that are possible, preferably Id like to give the information here a chance to grow, be assessed properly, be sourced and developed, while not sounding like a products brochure for the company. If we consolidate everything right now to the five flavours and cut all the rest of the info thats not sourced, unencylopedic (though some of this needs to be done anyway i think), then i think we wont have much left here (which at that point would make a merge preferable). I would rather we take our time and see if people develop this or if it can be devleoped. Im open to talk further about this, but i would ask we give the article a bit more of a chance still before merging or even deleting and at the very least be assessed so a third opinion says how to fix it properlyOttawa4ever (talk) 17:49, 20 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Just fyi, i had placed the request for assessment here, but no word on whether it will be looked at soon Wikipedia:WikiProject Food and drink/Assessment Ottawa4ever (talk) 22:46, 27 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I don't think it matters how Skittles is using this website. The article is so short that this list is kinda unnecessary. I think they should be merged.Synchronism (talk) 20:27, 14 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

You may be right now, Ive looked at it closely and it seems to me it is probably bloated with alot of info that isnt necessary and still promotional in nature (I may be wrong just the impression i get) Im going to do a bit more work here and adding of dates produced. But i would like to ask, Alot of the info in the notes section appears to be very promotional could it be phased it out? Or is there away to improve that coloumn? I would rather see the list grow freely in content and be its own article but if consensus would prefer a merge we could go down that route with a bit of work to the material i think Ottawa4ever (talk) 20:39, 22 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
I still though think that we can expand this list enough though...Ottawa4ever (talk) 20:55, 22 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sources edit

There's a real lack of verifiable sources here. I've found tons of stuff on blogs, but almost nothing in what wikipedia would normally trust. So either a. we need to find a verifiable source and if you have one speak up now, or b. we need to accept that blogs may be the best soruce of information here, especially for limited edition flavors. Ideas? Geraldk (talk) 17:09, 29 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

The data on when Skittles was released in the U.S. is incorrect. As a 12 year old in 1972. I was addicted to Skittles in Southern California prior to entering high school it was released around 1972-3 not 1979. Brainchannels (talk) 14:39, 11 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
I think if none can be found theres a bit of leeway. From wikipedia:reliable sources: "As a rule of thumb, the more people engaged in checking facts, analyzing legal issues, and scrutinizing the writing, the more reliable the publication." They do allow for some furom talk; providing that they are edited by reliable organizations, and therefore may possibly be justified as exceptions to the ommission of web furoms. Obviously the most preferred source is something that can be verified and should be prefeered over b. any other thoughts on this out there?Ottawa4ever (talk) 19:17, 29 May 2009 couldn't you use the skittles web-site as a source it might be a stupid idea but it might work because it does give off some info that could help or would that be illeagal and against copy-rights

Table matching article. edit

The table doesn't match the article. The article says that Original Flavour were launched in 1974, although not until 1979 in the US. We list the US flavours as default and give the launch date as 1979 in the table.

Is the table intended only to show US launch dates, and any differences from US flavours only as minor points of interest? If so, we should make that clear in the column headings. 86.151.237.65 (talk) 22:54, 30 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I would say the best thing would be the original release date independent of where it was released. That way it wouldnt make the headings so confusing and over populate the table. keeping it simple. That would be my current thoughts Ottawa4ever (talk) 16:40, 31 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
The other issue as well is it has been difficult in the past to actually source its release as 1973 and 1974. Alot of web references merely take what was in wikipedia and show that. Ottawa4ever (talk) 16:41, 31 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Overlinking edit

Is it really necessary to link to articles on the fruits etc. that flavor the candies for every single variety in the chart? Per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Linking, "Generally, a link should appear only once in an article, but if helpful for readers, links may be repeated in infoboxes, tables" etc. Thus repeated use in a chart is not necessarily contrary to MOS, but I don't think it's necessarily helpful, either. Cnilep (talk) 02:33, 29 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

I think this is the kind of case where repeated links are helpful. For example, a reader might scroll straight down to Citrus skittles, and then wonder what a Mandarin orange is. Such a reader ought to be able to click the link right there to find out; I don't think we should expect them to scroll up to Crazy sours just to find the first occurrence of "Mandarin" in the table. Also, I think such a big table would look oddly inconsistent if each fruit were only linked on the first occurrence. Adrian J. Hunter(talkcontribs) 13:49, 30 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Flavours edit

With the original type of Skittles, up until a few years ago, purple was blackcurrant like the UK. When they changed it, not only did it go to grape, but the formula for all other Skittle flavours remaining changed, so the old and familiar flavours now have a new taste. Should be added to the history, that the formula was updated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.214.50.102 (talk) 15:35, 27 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Crazy Cores? edit

Crazy Cores coexisted with Blenders for a time in roughly 2010-2011. Not sure when they were discontinued. Does anyone else remember them? References? Dozzzzzzzzzing off (talk) 20:45, 6 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Also... edit

In my experiences, Skittles Riddles had the same color-flavor combo regardless of bag: green was punch, pink was apple, red was watermelon, blue was strawberry, and teal was blue raspberry. This held constant across several bags that I ate of these. Dozzzzzzzzzing off (talk) 20:46, 6 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

The Skittles original flavors. edit

The original flavor Skittles are combination of Orange, Lemon, Lime, Grape and Strawberry. There can only be 1 original and for Skittles it is Orange, Lemon, Lime, Grape and Strawberry. [1] Skittles has changed the original flavors switching the lime to green apple so they are not original so using the term original is deceptive for the original MarkRww (talk) 21:02, 14 February 2016 (UTC)Skittles flavors. A new section needs to be created to clearly describe the new Skittles flavors situation that is not deceptive. MarkRww (talk) 20:59, 14 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
