Talk:List of National Labour MPs

Pethick-Lawrence and King-Hall edit

What's the source for Frederick Pethick-Lawrence being a National Labour MP in 1931? He was a sitting Labour minister and so few joined the National Government that he would have been guaranteed his position. Both his own page and Leicester West (UK Parliament constituency) do not list him as having gone over to National Labour.

Also Stephen King-Hall is not listed here but I recall he was one of the most prominent latter day members, sitting for Ormskirk between 1939 and 1945. However Ormskirk (UK Parliament constituency) lists him as "Independent National"... Timrollpickering 10:19, 5 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Looks like you're right on Pethick-Lawrence; not sure what source I used, but it was incorrect! You're probably right on King-Hall, but I've left him out until I can clarify our conflicting information on whether he was a National Labour MP or not. Warofdreams talk 01:58, 9 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
I've just added a new page for SKH and took the fact that he was a National Labour MP from the Ormskirk entry, so it's obviously changed. Speaking on 21st October 1943, he described himself as an independent, see link - [1]. When did the NLP dissolve ? The main article omits the date. John 18:12, 28 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Just before the 1945 general election. A few of the sitting MPs stood as either National Independents (e.g. Harold Nicolson) or straightout independents (e.g. Lindsay).
I don't have a copy of F. W. S. Craig to hand but two lists/tables I've recently compiled both have down as National Labour, one when he entered Parliament in 1939 (which relied heavily on Craig) and in the Norway Debate - indeed the figures for two National Labour MPs voting against don't work if he wasn't.
