Amtrak considered a Class I for this list? edit

Are we going to consider Amtrak a class I RR and list it on this list? According to AAR it's a Class I but I wasn't sure if we left Amtrak off for a reason. (They DO own the NEC). Rhallanger 20:08, 2 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Size of each class I edit

What's the point of this page? edit

It would definitely be useful to have a list of all railroads that have been Class I, something I've been working on, but what's this supposed to be? I can see the use of a bunch of "capsule histories" of the companies, but concentrating on the relationships with other companies rather than a rehash of the main article. --NE2 23:30, 11 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

More information edit

I suggest we turn this into a sortable table to give information on the railroads, who owns them, where they are located, and mileage. Stidmatt (talk) 23:32, 17 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Florida East Coast Railroad edit

Florida East Coast Railroad should be included in the current Class I Railroads because they are a Class I, they should be in the current Class I Railroads 124.190.12.234 (talk) 02:26, 25 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

please add metrics that allow the reader to compare the six Class I railroads edit

For instance, like this (but ideally formatted as a sortable wiki table):

  • BNSF Railway – $25.9 Billion Revenue, 32,500 route miles, 35,000 employees.
  • Union Pacific Railroad – $24.9 Billion Revenue, 32,100 route miles, 32,100 employees.
  • CSX Transportation – $14.9 Billion Revenue, 20,000 route miles, 25,000 employees.
  • Norfolk Southern Railway – $12.7 Billion Revenue, 21,200 route miles, 20,000 employees.
  • Canadian National Railway – $12.4 Billion Revenue, 20,000 route miles, 24,000 employees.
  • Canada Pacific Railway – $6 Billion Revenue, 12,500 route miles, 12,000 employees.
  • Kansas City Southern Railway – $2.75 Billion Revenue, 4,000 route miles, 6,600 employees.

These data are from this page but consider this an illustrative example only using unpublishable made-up numbers, since that page doesn't source their data.
