Sales units in Billboard charts?

Billboard charts don't contain sales or streams. They only display chart positions. Hence, adding weekly consumption units to a table of charts when the charts themselves don't even display those units looks ornamental to me. Ronherry (talk) 17:38, 29 November 2021 (UTC)

Yeah, I think it's been discussed before, and the consensus is that veered too far into the territory of us just replicating/mirroring their data, which is not the role of the encyclopedia. We should not be adding sales like that. Sergecross73 msg me 17:58, 29 November 2021 (UTC)

Morgan Wallen was #1

In all of the source citations back to Billboard, it is explicitly clear that his album was #1, NOT Adele’s. I’m not only interested in someone correcting this…I want to know why such a blatant statement was made in this article? Did somebody edit this to the incorrect info in retribution for the Morgan Wallen controversy in the news in 2021?

Please assume good faith. "Number 1 album" is a vague term, you know. I've been following the chart less lately, but I recall times in the past, there's been misunderstandings because sometimes "number 1" means "best-selling", while other times it may mean "topped the chart the most" or "generally had a higher chart position on average than any other album". It's possible Waller was best in one metric, while Adele in another. Sergecross73 msg me 21:14, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

Hi. You have misunderstood the charts. Nielsen/MRC Data publishes its own list in every January, giving us the list of the best selling albums (that actually sold, not streamed) of the previous year. The #1 album in that list is referred to as the "best selling album of the year". What you're referring to is "Chart points". Morgan's album was the #1 "best performing" album according to Billboard in the timeframe November 2020-November 2021 (which is not a full year and hence is not considered as best selling album of XYZ year) based on its upward and downward movements on the Billboard 200 chart. This chart does not regard any streams or sales. Adele's album was the best selling album of 2021 (the full year of January-December 2021) while Morgan's album placed #1 on the Billboard year-end list of best performing albums (November 2020-November 2021).
