"State" conference edit
What is the "State Conference" you added here? The source indicates they were independent until the 1917-1918 season. Do you have a source that says otherwise? —Eustress talk 19:29, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not terribly familiar with how it should be...they were independent. I was assuming that the state of Utah was treated as a sort of conference at the time, as in the "Cougars in Conference" section of the source, it first lists the state championships from 1906-1917 then goes to conference results. I thought I'd mirror this in said article, but perhaps it's best to change it back to independent? If not, I noticed the colours are wrong; they should show "conference tournament champion", not "regular season champion", and conference standing should definitely be blanked. ~Araignee (talk • contribs) 02:15, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
- Well, we need to stick to reliable sources and not guess anything. I noticed you made a number of changes since splitting the list off into a separate article that don't jive with the version I created according to the source (including the miscolorings). Therefore, I've restored the original pre-2010-2011 season content. If there are any doubts, consult the source, or put a comment on the talk page if you located some reliable source that says otherwise and we can discuss. —Eustress talk 00:07, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- Ah, I see where the problems are coming from. There were definitely no guesses, I simply forgot to update the source to this (BYU's current media guide), which includes the conference championships/standings. I meticulously added all of the colourings based on this document, and they should be accurate. I'll move it back to how I had it tomorrow, updating the source and switching the "State" section to independent. If you have any concerns, let me know. - Gotcha. I went ahead and restored your content while removing the State parameter. I also modified the so-called "1st place state" finishes. They aren't conference wins, so no coloring is needed, but I still left text indicating the state placing. I even hesitate to do this since even in recent years the Cougars have claimed to be "State Champions" for beating USU and Utah, but I think the classification held a different meaning back then and is probably valid here -- but it's still not a conference ranking. Thanks for your help on this and for locating a more comprehensive source (the other one I had is still listed on byucougars.com -- weird). —Eustress talk 12:18, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
