This is probably not the best place to ask this question, but I am struck by how many UK MW broadcast stations use T antennas, which are considered long obsolete in North America. (Other than as an emergency replacement for a fallen tower, T antennas are not used by any U.S. station, and in Canada only by a few very-low-power CBC retransmitters, as they do not meet efficiency standards. The "hammock"-type antenna lasted somewhat longer, but the last of those is now gone as well.) So why are these still used? Insulators are not that expensive; surely it would be more economical to insulate the two support structures and operate them either as normal series-fed masts or as supports for a folded unipole antenna (or both, as is done elsewhere in the UK). 121a0012 (talk) 06:57, 15 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
