Wording edit

"where she was in the cornfields until 1992" I do not understand what that means, we should clear it up so that it is more obvious to the casual observer. 72.92.208.28 (talk) 20:08, 27 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

"She was a theater and English major at Memphis State University and 12 credits short of graduating when she met Elvis." I think this phrase should be rephrased. I don't think it is grammaticaly acceptable. I think I understand it, after re-reading it: it means: "When she met Elvis she was majoring in English at Memphis State University and she didn't graduate because she lacked twelve credits to graduate". [It's understood twelve credits were needed to graduate]. Couldn't just rephrase that phrase like that?

My Grown Up Christmas List edit

Linda penned the lyrics for this great song, music by David Foster, in 1990. It's getting a bit of a revival, Xmas 2010, from Michael Buble's cover: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfH_rfEe-F0 IMHO one of the best Christmas songs ever. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Boztown (talkcontribs) 17:34, 21 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

References to Caitlyn Jenner edit

As a matter of respect for not deadnaming trans individuals, the references to Caitlyn Jenner should use her correct name. Can see from the history it's been edited and reverted numerous times. As per the Wikipedia style guide (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Gender_identity):

  • "In articles on works or other activity by a living trans or non-binary person before transition, use their current name as the primary name."
  • "Before including a transgender subject's former name inline, consider including it as a footnote instead."

Can I therefore suggest edits that correctly use Caitlyn's name, with a footnote in the first instance about her gender identity? Happy to make the appropriate edits but didn't want to do so before posting it here on the talk page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zigs0 (talkcontribs) 18:32, 6 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

@User:Zigs0 done, although I didn't think the footnotes were needed Stephanie921 (talk) 00:37, 26 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
The article states, “If a living transgender or non-binary person was not notable under a former name (a deadname), it should not be included in any page (including lists, redirects, disambiguation pages, category names, templates, etc.), even in quotations, even if reliable sourcing exists. Treat the pre-notability name as a privacy interest separate from (and often greater than) the person's current name.” Jenner was notable as “Bruce Jenner” hence why her birth name is mentioned in the lede of her article Caitlyn Jenner. It’s not deadnaming Jenner. There’s absolutely no reason why her previous name should not be mentioned in the article since Thompson married Jenner when she was known notably as a male.--Mcdonald9823 (talk) 23:22, 31 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

As said before me, we are allowed to mention the dead name if the person was notable under it, which is definitely the case here. Jenner presented as cis man throughout their entire relationship and did not transition until decades later. The article needs to clearly reflect that. For the record Kris Jenner's article uses the so-called dead name with regard to the marriage. Not sure why this article should be worded in a way to suggest that Ms Thompson married a woman. Gjxj (talk) 18:15, 25 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Linda Thompson (actress)Linda Thompson (songwriter) – Linda is primarily known as a Grammy-nominated songwriter and for being Elvis Presley's ex-girlfriend. She had some small acting roles too but isn't really known for that. Strangerthings7112 (talk) 01:23, 19 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
