Adding content relating to 2011–2016 constituency edit

I propose splitting the content in Limerick (Dáil constituency) relating to the 2011 to 2016 period and merging it with this page. The earlier 1923 to 1948 Limerick constituency was a constituency of the whole city and county. Including the information on the 2011 to 2016 area on the Limerick County is preferable as it better shows the reader the changes in both representation and party support between elections, and the evolution of the constituency area. As it is, the 2011 election is in isolation with the rest of the results from the 1940s. In reality, the 2016 Limerick County election is a clear successor to the 2011 Limerick election; two of the three TDs in 2011 were re-elected in 2016, and the son of the third in 2011 was the third in 2016 (Collins, O'Donovan and Neville both times, if Tom instead of Dan). As long as it is clearly note in the introduction to the page that it had a different name, there shouldn't be any loss of clarity. Also, the visible blue text on any other pages would remain the same. Iveagh Gardens (talk) 15:56, 10 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Limerick West (1948 to 2011) should be merged with the page of Limerick County (its name since 2016, and also incoporating the name Limerick for 2011 to 2016). As with other pages where I've advocated a merger, it is on the basis of continuity of representation and candidates. It is of benefit to a reader interested in the results of either a particular candidate or party to continue through rather than having to jump pages where there's a change in the designation style. The text in other pages wouldn't generally be altered, except for rewording where a TD represented the area through different names. Iveagh Gardens (talk) 05:55, 3 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
