Jeremy Clarkson edit

Jeremy Clarkson is the fastest man to ever travel through the tunnel at 186MPH reported by the Daily Mail Online —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.32.149.209 (talk) 13:44, 29 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I replaced "Admitted" with "claimed" as there is strong evidence to suggest that Clarkson was in fact joking, and "admitted" carries connotations of "admitted in court".

Does that then make it notable? Somehow, I doubt it. There are active speed cameras throughout its length these daze - not like originally when 70 was going slow (not that I have any personal knowledge of such a thing, anyway it wouldn't stand up in court). cheers Kbthompson (talk) 10:58, 1 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

construction edit

If it was built by cut and cover, how did they dig it under the dock? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.189.103.145 (talk) 09:46, 9 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

I was also wondering, what was the motivation for building it? -- Beland (talk) 18:50, 3 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

I have added some information (referenced from an LDDC document about the construction of the project) on both the above points. (I used to live near Mile End, to the north of the site, and remember the early 1980s congestion well.) The ICE has some good papers detailing the tunnels' construction, but they are pay-walled.
