Talk:Limalama

Latest comment: 7 years ago by InternetArchiveBot in topic External links modified

I found this page last year and have been editing/expanding it. Limalama is a legitimate martial art, but not a lot has been written about it. In response to the comment about needing to demonstrate 'notability' I added pointers to some good references on the web and a Black Belt magazine article. I'm not sure of the protocol of removing the warning messages added by the 'editor' so I left it, would appreciate their removal or a response giving more information about what is still 'advertising' or 'not notable'. Also the real name of the art is "Limalama", not "Lima Lama" although both are used, not clear there is an easy way to fix the top level name or if it even matters. The format of a lot of the references need to be changed and I don't know what applies to what. Claims like military decoration need reliable sources do ing a quick run though now but needs more. --Nate1481 22:49, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

It is stated that the following sentence needs a citation. "Solomon Esquivel also gives credit to Tu'umamao Tuiolosega in writings which were distributed to some of his students.[citation needed] "

I was a student, and I have the writings, yet I've no idea how to "cite" that. Suggestions? DrJBN Oct17, 2007

I don't know if you can submit such a document to wikipedia, but that may be a possiblity; Scan the writings and then upload them to wikipedia as an original research item. Another possibility may be to upload it somewhere else on the net then provide a link to that location. I'm not experienced in the process of adding an image to wikipedia, but I can help you in uploading an image elsewhere.
Either way the first step is to get the writings scanned. Have you done this already? User5802 00:25, 18 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

The page seems to flip back and forth between versions, with the latest big switch initiated 18:50, 17 November 2007 Violetriga (Talk | contribs) (4,385 bytes) (→Development - remove POV/unencyclopedic content that was poorly written). Some edits here in the talk page regarding large changes would be helpful.

One thing that was removed was the statment, "Perspectives on Limalama's development vary. On the Limalama website Tu'umamao Tuiolosega is given credit.[1] Solomon Esquivel also gives credit to Tu'umamao Tuiolosega in writings which were distributed to some of his students.[citation needed] Some consider Limalama to be the result of a combination of efforts from the members of the original Limalama organization.[2]" While this might appear POV, I'm not sure it is. It appears to me more as a statement to the observation that POVs regarding the origin have some variance.
